No word yet of international distribution for Perrier's Bounty, but a few more early reviews have appeared, and they're more positive than the last bunch. We've added three more to our Reviews archive.
Moving Pictures, which explains that "Perrier's has something entirely more romantic and gentle of heart in mind" than the oft-compared In Bruges, says of our idol:
Cillian Murphy has eyes like shards of arctic ice. Even Sinatra and Newman would marvel. Yet his baby blues are never more expressive, never more alive, than when they are bloodied and bruised and looking at (co-star Jodie) Whitaker.
Film blog The Film Stage also makes the In Bruges comparison, but calls Perrier's "a little more whacky (sic)", a ... "purely adrenaline-filled action trip". They rave:
Cillian Murphy can do no wrong. He plays the desperate lead to perfection. It may be his accent, his good looks, or generally cool demeanor that make his character infinitely watchable, but everything adds up just right, giving us one of the best performances of the festival.
MONDO favors Jim Broadbent's performance, noting:
In spite of Murphy’s watchability and superb comic timing, he is overshadowed by the louder, brasher, and more comic characters in the film. ... The dichotomy between Murphy and (Brendan) Gleeson as fierce rivals is also quite intriguing to watch as the pair have previously appeared together in 28 Days Later... and Breakfast on Pluto in father-son type relationships.
Thanks to The Automatik, our long-time colleague, for alerting us to these reviews!
