At Swim-Two-Birds takes off + vote for Cillian

It's happening!

At Swim-Two-Birds

Back in 2006, the Thomas Crosbie wire service and others reported that actor Brendan Gleeson (28 Days Later...) had adapted Flann O'Brien's funny metafictional Irish novel, At Swim-Two-Birds, and that many of Ireland's leading actors, including Cillian, were interested in starring in the film version. In March 2007's Premiere, Cillian said he'd been to a table reading of the script, but not much more was heard outside of Gabriel Byrne promoting the idea ... until now.

According to today's Variety, Ireland's Parallel Pictures will make the film for $11 million, with Gleeson to make his directorial debut. Cillian will star alongside Colin Farrell and Byrne. Variety describes At Swim-Two-Birds as "a coming-of-age tale about a 19-year-old student who sees the fictional characters in the play he's writing intertwining with the people in his life," but since some consider the book as unfilmable as Tristram Shandy long was thought to be, At Swim may be more complicated than that synopsis.

Perhaps Cillian will finally see his wish to play a cowboy come true: the writer character in the book is writing a Western, and its protagonists turn on him.

HuffPo poll: best gender-bending in film

Here's your chance to pump up Cillian's performance in Breakfast on Pluto: this Huffington Post poll. He's currently at #1. Makes me long for photos from the forthcoming Peacock!
