Inception teases + DJ Underpants?!?

Inception teaser, website, premise—and Cillian's character

Filming isn't even complete on Inception, but the marketing machine has launched. As NewsInFilm.com and others report, the new teaser showing in theaters doesn't show much more than a spinning silver top, Leonardo DiCaprio, and the tag line, "Your mind is the scene of the crime." It popped up online in a bootlegged version that was pulled from YouTube by Warner Brothers, but an official version will be out on Monday. The official website is up, but currently features only the whirling top, which you can manipulate with your mouse.

But here's a mild spoiler: /Film.com uncovered a Rotten Tomatoes.com forum poster who purports to know a few more details about the premise. This person wrote:

Inception is about entering peoples' minds/dreams. A technology to do so has been developed and is done through an injection. DiCaprio and his team work to enter the minds of other characters in order to retrieve/plant information.

Amidst all this, the only lead about Cillian's role comes thanks to a leaked call sheet, which lists his character's name as "Fischer." Not much to go on there.

Cillian DJs, auctions his underwear

As we blogged in July, Cillian performed at the recent The Flat Lake Literary and Arts Festival in Clones, County Monaghan, Ireland. The Irish Times described the festival, which was co-founded by Breakfast on Pluto author Patrick McCabe, as "madcap, wonderfully shambolic and creatively mixed affair." Cillian made the scene, catching poetry sets, as shown in the above photo taken during poet Barbara Smith's set, and as a DJ, which the Times describes thusly:

Actor Cillian Murphy had the front row swooning for his DJ set late on Saturday night. For the most part he stuck to foot-stomping faithfuls—Beck’s "Loser," Nena’s "99 Red Balloons," Eurythmics’ "Sweet Dreams," and plenty of funk, some soul and a little early 1990s rock. If he ever gives up acting, there are plenty of student bars up and down the country who would be delighted to have him on a slow Tuesday.

More salacious events are described in today's Sunday Independent, where Victoria Mary Clarke describes, "How I got my hands on sexy Cillian's underpants, with his wife's approval." In this funny piece, the author, partner of singer Shane MacGowan, describes how she convinced Cillian to participate in a celebrity auction to benefit the festival. Her first idea?

Wouldn't it be great, I thought, if we could persuade him to snog someone? Or better still, snog them and then have breakfast in bed with them? The star of Breakfast on Pluto having Breakfast in Clones with you, in a camper van? Wouldn't a person pay an enormous amount of money for that privilege?

Um, yeeeaaah, I would say so.

Being the tenacious type and unafraid of handsome actors, I got his phone number and left a message to this effect. There was no response. But I did not despair. On Saturday afternoon, I spotted the unmistakable cheekbones of the cute Cork man ... at the festival. I marched straight up to him and informed him that he would be auctioned the following evening, all in a good cause. And that he would probably have to snog the person (be they male or female) and have breakfast in bed with them. I was horrified when he said no, he didn't think he would want to do that, especially considering that his wife was with him. He offered to autograph a T-shirt instead.

Undeterred, Clarke got festival co-founder Kevin Allen to finagle Cillian's Calvin Kleins for the auction, much to the amusement of his wife, artist Yvonne McGuinness.

"Are you absolutely sure you want these?" Cillian said, blushing charmingly. ...Just as I predicted, when the time came for the auction, the bidding was fast and furious. Indeed I was bidding myself, but I lost out to a more determined lady, who grabbed the pants immediately, paid in cash and disappeared off into the night. Unfortunately, the same level of enthusiasm was not in evidence when we announced the other celebrity items..."

Thanks to Mitzi for the Clones photo link and Times review.

It's great to know that he was there at the event and enjoyed it - and also that he took the auction request in good heart :-)
