Director, writer quit further delayed Hippie

Dismal Hippie Hippie Shake news from The London Times's People section: citing "creative differences," director Beeban Kidron has walked off the production—and her husband, screenwriter Lee Hall had already quit.

"I worked on the film for as long as I could and as hard as I could and then I had to walk away," [Kidron] says of the movie. "It was very wounding."

This development cannot bode well for the quality of the movie, which Working Title Films "insists ... won’t go straight to DVD," but which is now promised for a tiny 100-print limited release, in ... wait for it ... February 2010, almost two and a half years after filming wrapped.

Publisher Felix Dennis, one of the real people depicted in Hippie, was also quoted panning the film:

"I was eventually, after asking several times, permitted to see a copy of the film, which I think is quite possibly the worst film to be made in the 21st century," he tells People, adding that he fears that the film will prove to be "an absolute stinker ... a dog's breakfast made of a terrific story."

Wow. So another straight-to-DVD film for Cilly. That sucks! Oh well, at least he has other projects to attend to.
