Hippie Hippie Shake "unreleasable"?!

The Sidney Morning Herald has some alarming gossip regarding Cillian's forthcoming film, Hippie Hippie Shake:

Universal Studios, ... the film's distributor, was unable to provide any detail on the film's release. The film community has been rife with gossip that Hippie Hippie Shake was either "unreleasable" or "going straight to DVD".

Uh oh! Keep in mind that this is just hearsay. And while it is true that Hippie was shot way back in the fall of 2007, that it was originally supposed to come out in 2008, and that, as we've blogged in the past, some of the real people depicted in the film were not pleased to have been depicted, this gossip column isn't verification that Hippie has really been shelved or sent straight to DVD. Still, given that there is no official release date, this is worrying. Richard Neville, the '60s Oz magazine editor whom Cillian plays in the film, explained to The Herald,

"It is something I have absolutely no control over. I sold the film rights and pretty much that's where I left it, but I have been assured it will get a release date."

Neville admitted he was behind several scenes being reshot, explaining the long delays were the result of "getting permission ... It's dealing with real people's lives."

Reshoots? Uh oh, again. Well, the good news for starved Cillian fans is that the Working Title Films site posted new production stills for Hippie, and we've added a gallery page for these.

k this is so strange. i have found three links to reviews for the film and they are mostly positive. now i hear they are releasing this for february 5 2010, oscar season. perhaps sienna or cillian or the screenplay will get a nod. that would make the wait worthwhile.

Uh-oh, I hope not. :( Oh well, one more miss for Cillian isn't going to hurt. We still have Peacock and Perrier's Bounty to look forward to as theatrical releases! :) Thanks for the update! I love the new stills!
