Waveriders in Scotland + playing catch-up + Cillian as producer?

[Note: The CillianSite has a new archivist, Lillian, contributing here for the first time.]

Catch a wave

Scottish fans have the opportunity to experience Waveriders at Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre, from 3–9 July. The IFTA-winning documentary explores the Irish origins of big-wave riding and features Cillian as narrator. Though he does not make an onscreen appearance, the sound of Cillian's voice is certainly worth the price of admission, along with the spectacle of surfers attempting fifty-foot swells.

Updates: Empire Awards, Dazed and Confused, new index

Cillian Murphy and Leslie Feist
See the spread and text from Dazed and Confused

With a re-expanding staff, we were able to upload the images from Cillian's Empire Awards appearance in April, as well as both the text and scans from March's Dazed and Confused interview with Cillian and his co-star from The Water, Leslie Feist. We also added a second blog index, grouped by topic.

Frustrated rock star, new producer?

Speaking of the Dazed and Confused piece, in it Cillian talks candidly to Feist about his musical desires and shortcomings, and drops a hint of things to come:

I'm a fucking frustrated rock star. I've played in bands since I was 20. But it's pretty much a hobby because this is what I do. (acting) I'm less comfortable with actors making records than musicians acting. I'm a bit snobbier about it because you (musicians) already have a platform as an actor. You find a lot of actors are frustrated rock stars.

... I guess it's so hard to make your living as a musician and I wasn't really good, so that was an important realisation I think. You have to find some way of self-expression so, for me, that was acting. The other guys still play and they're really good, but I'm really glad it didn't happen.

For those of us wondering where the news is regarding new lead roles for Cillian and what he's doing about it behind the scenes, there's also this tidbit:

... as you get older, you feel the need to make stuff happen for yourself, rather than wait for someone to offer you a job. So I'm starting to produce a few bits.

We wonder what Cillian has in the works as a producer!

Thank you to Rukia and our affiliates uCillian.com and CillianMurphy.ru for helping us catch up!

Oh yes, I did over at the forum. I'm glad to have been some help to the site. :)

I agree with what you had had to say, Melty_Girl. I'm glad Cillian's taking charge and producing. I think that's a very smart move for him. I mean, if things aren't going they way he wants to them go, then he just has to take them into his own hands. Ed Norton has produced quite a few films in which he starred, and they worked out for him.

I wish Cillian the best of luck in his producing endeavors, and I hope we'll see something from him soon!

Producing is work, just like acting, and it's often less glamorous, less "artistic" work.

But anyway, I think his point was that he wants to act MORE, so he's taking the reins and producing so that he can create more parts for himself. Producing on top of acting is more work than just acting -- I don't think that's a "slacker" attitude. Not sure why you took him saying that he doesn't want to wait around for someone else to offer him a job as slacking!

So... he's going to lapse into producing "bits" ("bits" being very good for paying the bills) while he lets his acting career slide. In other words, he's a "artistic" go-nowhere slacker in the making. Oh, joy. As long as you're happy, Cillian. Hell, some of us actually have to work for a living....

Nice to get more news from him. Interesting that he's producing now. Maybe he'll write and possibly direct a few bits as well, he was pretty good in that short film he did with a friend years ago (Watchtower? Forget the name) Still miss him on the big screen. Hope to see him there soon.
