Edge: U.K. DVD, French film fest, new stills

Great news for anyone who can watch Region 2 DVDs: The Edge of Love will be released in the U.K. on DVD on 27 October! The extras will include audio commentary with John Maybury and Matthew Rhys, but not Cillian. There's a good chance, though, that we'll see and hear more of him during the interviews with the cast and crew, in the deleted scenes, amongst the photo gallery, and (fingers crossed!) in the promised gag reel.

Still on the big screen, The Edge of Love will be featured this weekend at the Festival du Film Britannique de Dinard, a French film festival dedicated to British film.

Finally, we've updated the gallery with seven new or better quality production stills from The Edge of Love. Beware: the close ups might take your breath away!

Thanks to Unanimoose for info on the DVD release!

Got my DVD from the U.K. today, and I've just gotta say that-- well, let's keep it "glass-half-full" for once-- the Miller-Knightley fans will be much, umm, happier with the extras than the Murphy fans will be. Granted, I was in a hurry, so I did some zipping-through, but as far as I could see, Cillian doesn't make a single peep in the behind-the-scenes featurette. He provides a single yawn (literally: he yawns) in the blooper reel; he accidentally bumps the camera in an outside Steadicam scene (at least I think that's what happened: I think he forgot where the camera guy was, turned the wrong way, and WHUMP); and they make a recurring gag of his cigarette lighter not working during a take, which ends with him saying, in frustration, "F*** it. Sorry. It won't light." And he's in three deleted scenes, most notably one with Matthew Rhys, in which Dylan the Human Sponge (good gravy, now I'm picturing him in "Sponge Bob Square Pants") persuades William to go on a beer run with a baby buggy (which ends up a whole lot more grousingly dour than it sounds, especially when you remind yourself who likely got stuck paying for the beer), and one in which Killick gazes at Vera while she sings. And gazes. And gazes. And gazes. And gazes.

For the entire length of the song.

Which leads me to think I've never agreed so wholeheartedly with a director's decision to jettison material. I mean, I love to watch Cillian as much as anyone here, but VERA SINGS. WILLIAM GAZES. VERA SINGS. WILLIAM GAZES. REPEAT.--? What the hell kind of scripting is that? Why did they even film it...? And the scene with Dylan-- not to mention another deleted bit, in which Dylan begs Vera, baby in her arms, to come and "play" with him-- does nothing but reinforce Dylan's image as an impossible, irresponsible cad. Good editing choices, Mr. Maybury!

But bad news for folks looking forward to seeing more of Cillian in the bonus features. Ah, well....

I just watch Edge of Love, and I got lots of feelings. Hapiness, sadness and even anger. This movie was amazing, and I even loved it. Cillians character was wonderful, stronger and vey dramatic. I even cried a lot for all the situations he passed (Killick), and even his wife(Keira). She suffered a lot. Sienna Miller was brilliant! I was like wow, she could be my friend but then...she changed...and I felt like hating her. The cast was perfect and the story was amazing. I will always be honest with this, Cillian has been my all time inspiration in acting, and I just love the way he gets involved in the character, how he transforms into that character, and I just loved the way he went trough in the movie. But Keira and Sienna...give it all and made this movie...a magical inspiration for me...cause I just wish I could be as famous as they are...love the magic of movie theater...its just beautiful! I realy recomend this movie, cause Sienna, Keira and Cillian...are totaly awesome as actors/actresses. The other one..I forgot the name, sorry, was also amazing. I just do enjoy this films and recomend it to everyone. Oh one thing...the baby was adorable XD

Just watched it as an online stream (no illegal download, not exactly, and, yes, I've still got my DVD on order from Amazon UK, so they'll be getting their money out of me), and I just want to say that I think this is Cillian's best role to date. He doesn't have as much screen time as we might hope, but DAMN! Reminds me why I fell in love with the little guy in the first place. Especially when an emotionally devastated Killick comes back from the war. Wow....

That story is based on real life, so almost everything is real if I read right. So I think that baby...is of them.

Good ol' Amazon.uk is always happy to translate dollars into pounds. And for those of us with Amazon Prime, there's a price discount, too! (Always weird how it costs less to order a CD directly from Amazon.uk than to pay for the same disc as an "import" from one of Amazon's warehouses here in the U.S. Got the "Edge of Love" soundtrack for $22.00 direct from England; Amazon's American site was listing it for $32.00 as an import.)

And, yeah, the baby thing.... Though I'm wondering: in real life, did Killick and Vera have a son-- THAT son-- who died in infancy or childhood? In the biographical material I've read, I've heard mention of something like five daughters, but no son. Anyone know...?
