Iowa residents meet Cillian

A look at the exterior and interior locations used for the Skillpa house

The Des Moines Register has a feature about local residents who have been lucky enough to be cast as extras in Peacock, or employed by the production company, many of whom mentioned Cillian in their recollections.

Not only is Janice Cirksena an extra in the film, but her 1909 Craftsman home is being used as the Skillpa residence and has been redecorated with vintage wallpaper, curtains, and furniture to give it a 1950s or 1960s feel. Cirksena became used to having the cast and crew in her home:

One night after a shoot, she returned home to find one of the sound technicians jamming away on a blues guitar. Murphy came downstairs awhile later, and actor Keith Carradine grabbed the guitar to sing a song of his own.

Extra Tara Hilpipre confirms what we've already known, stating that "Cillian's quiet" and gives us an glimpse into the tedius, repetitive nature of filming scenes:

She watched Cillian Murphy walk across the wrap-around porch and knock on the front door. Again. And again. And once again.

Amber Rowley, who worked in craft services, got to know everyone's food preferences and informs us that Cillian likes iced coffee with "a little bit of milk, one sugar."

Iowa has seen many tornadoes in recent weeks, and while Peacock's production has avoided the devastation experienced in other areas of the state, those at work on the film were not completely unaffected. Cast and crew were forced to take shelter in the basement of a local antiques store during a recent tornado warning. According to reporter Michael Morain, Cillian did his best to help everyone pass the time:

Cillian started a game in one corner, where a dozen people stood in a circle and took turns naming either an actor or a movie, which formed a chain link. (Cameron Diaz ... Something about Mary ... Ben Stiller ... Meet the Fockers ... Dustin Hoffman ... Rain Man ... ) Even though he was entirely friendly, I couldn't help thinking about his creepy doctor/scarecrow character in Batman Begins—definitely not the guy you'd want to see in a dark, dank basement.

You can read a full account of how the cast and crew waited out the tornado in Morain's blog, "Trapped in the basement with Juno ... and a psycho".

@ qwerty:

I didn't think the guy thought he was actually scary (he did say he was nice and all), but because he remembered him from Batman Begins, he came up with the scary thing. I guess since BB and Red Eye were his two major movie roles, and he plays villain in both of them, most people who aren't familiar with his work won't shake that image of him in those movies. I think had he played a good guy in a major role in a major motion picture, instead of the bad ones he plays, things would've been different.
