Sunshine DVD contest + Barley on 2007 top ten lists

Win a DVD from MovieWeb

Sunshine comes out on DVD in North America tomorrow, and MovieWeb is doing a DVD giveaway contest. Check it out!

Critics love Barley

Critics, especially the Brits, seemed hot on Sunshine when it came out (third act quibbles aside), but, sadly, audiences weren't drawn to the flame. At year's end, I don't see Sunshine on any major publications' lists of the top ten best films of 2007, but The Wind That Shakes the Barley was selected by some. Metacritic's compilation of lists shows that The Baltimore Sun ranked Barley at #5 for the year, The Washington Post put it at #7, and The LA Weekly had it at #10. The Seattle Times honored Barley on a no-particular-order top ten list, while Newsweek included Barley as a runner up, as did IFC News.

A brilliant film indeed. If I wasn't biased towards Cillian, it still would have been one of my favorite films.

That movie was brilliant. Hands down one of the best I've ever seen. Not only one of Cillian's best, but of the last decade. I still can't believe how ignored it has been in regards to the award circuit; I'm holding out for an Oscar, since I believe it came out in the right time frame, but I doubt it...so ridiculous.
