Official confirmation of The Dark Knight rumors

What we all learned earlier this year has now been officially confirmed: Cillian will reprise his role as Scarecrow in the Batman Begins sequel, The Dark Knight. As we blogged this summer, rumors that Cillian was on set in Chicago began to fly in June, and he was soon photographed on set and spotted at a Chicago museum. Finally, tomorrow's Los Angeles Times confirms what people have been buzzing about for so long:

The first six minutes of the film (were) shown Tuesday night in an invitation-only sneak preview at the Bridge Cinema's IMAX. ...Cillian Murphy, who played the villain Scarecrow in Batman Begins, is also in the cast credits, but (Christopher) Nolan only smirked when asked if that suggested that Batman would have three villains to deal with this time around. "He is in the film briefly, yes, but I don't want to give away all of our surprises."

I suppose the persistence of fans and our presence on the Internet may have prompted the filmmakers to spoil this surprise once and for all—not that I'm sorry!

Ouch! Yes, the 5% of me that is Jewish is very offended, celticgrl. I'm just kidding! I don't mind. I know you had good intentions.

I have to pay better attention. I'm always late to the party. Everybody's different & this means of communicating is pretty stilted. I feel everyone has been welcome here & I like lurking.

Cillian's been quoted as being very happy with his choices. The diversity is staggering. Dali and I sounds like a @$#% dream come true for him. Now lets hope for a cowboy role. I would also like to see him play a guy with no redeemability, like Ratso Rizzo in Midnight Cowboy. Man, he could really sink his teeth into a low life or someone with an intellectual deficit! (DiCaprio/Gilbert Grape, Thornton/Sling Blade)
