Cillian to star opposite idol Pacino

Al Pacino, Salvador Dalí
A dream is about to come true for Cillian: he just signed on to star opposite one of his biggest idols, Al Pacino. And the film in question, Dali & I: The Surreal Story, promises yet more '60s and '70s period interest for us Cillian fans, with Pacino as surrealist artist Salvador Dalí and Cillian as his disciple. The Hollywood Reporter explains:
The movie, which will span the 1960s-80s, follows the time in Dali's life when most of his great work was behind him and he became more flamboyant. Dali ... developed a mentor-protege relationship with a young art dealer named Stan Lauryssens, who will be played by Murphy. Based on Lauryssens' autobiographical book Dali and I.
Writer/director Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, Lord of War) will helm the film, which will be shot in Spain and New York early next year.
Cillian has long cited Pacino as one of his inspirations, often mentioning a teenage viewing of Pacino in the 1973 film Scarecrow as being the first time he realized how powerful film acting could be.
E.T.A.: I turned up Stan Lauryssens's website, and he sounds like quite the character. This crime fiction and history author says that before he met Dali in the 1980s, he was scamming his way across Europe and America selling fake art, fake diamonds and "non-existent real estate." I do wonder about his fascination with Nazi war criminals though, many of whom he has met and written about; there are photos of some of them on his site. One more note about the film: an earlier version of the Dali and I script was termed a "black comedy."
