Scream Awards nomination + AskMen.com vote + Hippie shaking + Slate's Spoiler Special on Sunshine + great reviews for Barley DVD

Cillian's second Scream Awards nomination

Scream Awards logo

The nominations have just been announced for the second annual Scream Awards, which salute the best of horror, sci-fi, fantasy and comics, and once again, Cillian has been chosen. Last year, it was a nomination for "Most Vile Villain" as Scarecrow, while this year it's for "Sci-Fi Star" for Sunshine. Cillian faces some stiff competition: Christian Bale (The Prestige), Hugh Jackman (The Fountain), Shia LaBeouf (Transformers), and Clive Owen (Children of Men). A panel of industry pros picked the nominees, but the public selects the winners: starting 7 September, we can go to iFilm's Scream Awards page and vote for Cillian. The show airs on Spike TV on 23 October.

I've added this fun pop award nomination to our comprehensive list of Cillian's awards and nominations.

Vote for Cillian in AskMen.com's Top 49 Men poll

AskMen.com Top 49 Men

Speaking of voting for Cillian, you can do just that right now at AskMen.com's Top 49 Men poll. They're looking to "select the men that have best represented our gender over the past year." I received an email from AskMen about this list, so they clearly don't mind if women vote too!

Hippie Hippie Shake is underway

We've spied the first signs that Hippie Hippie Shake is now shooting: a blogger named Jahna Sebastian reported yesterday that she just shot a hippie-ish rock festival scene as a "V.I.P. girl backstage". Cillian isn't mentioned, but we'll keep our eyes peeled for news of him on the set.

Slate podcast dissects Sunshine, spoilers and all

Did you ever wish, after seeing a film, that you could read reviews that said what critics really thought about all the specific plot twists they're not allowed to reveal? In the case of Sunshine, I felt that way really strongly, and Slate had just the thing to scratch my itch: their Sunshine review page also features their Spoiler Special podcast. There's a nickname the podcasters gave one character which really cracked me up—but I won't quote it for fear of spoiling anyone who still hasn't seen the film!

Barley DVD getting attention

It's great to see The Wind That Shakes the Barley being featured prominently in so many what's-new-on-DVD articles. The Huffington Post has a thoughtful review and labels Cillian "eerily beautiful." The Paramus Post calls him "immensely captivating", while The Seattle Times' slightly annoying review says the "film stars blue-eyed pretty boy Cillian Murphy (he can actually act)," and closes with an idiotic reference to Lucky Charms.

Nancy, just because Transformers is based off a cartoon it doesn't mean it's not Sci-fi.

I can't say that I liked the Slate podcast review. It felt longer than the film.

Hey Nancy, sorry it's been slow here lately. Not only has there been not too much Cillian news, but in the past few weeks we've had a variety of personal things hitting us all at once. But fear not -- we're still here, and looking forward to news of "Hippie Hippie Shake".

Just wanna say that I'm so glad I'm reading alot of new stuff on this site. For awhile prior to today, nothing new has been on this page which drove me a little of the wall. Secondly, I voted on the AskMen.com thing and gave Cillian a 10 (of course), though not Cillian-related, I'm quite shocked that Chris Evans didn't made the list since he's pretty much made a name for himself right about now. And off-topic, how can Shia LEbeaof be nominated for best SCI-FI star? For TRANSFORMERS?? Isn't that based on a cartoon and toy line? Just wondering.
As for the Seattle Times review, who knows, maybe the paper, as well as The Sun (in England) is owned by Rupert Murdoch. THe review did sound a bit conservgative, politics-wise. THough the NEw York Post is also owned by Murdoch and gave TWTSTB a nice enough review. Nevertheless, can't wait 'til i get the DVD!
