Reviews of Barley and news about the DVD extras

Gaming and movie news site IGN and entertainment news site Monsters and Critics both have news about the DVD release of The Wind That Shakes The Barley, but the latter makes specific mention of Cillian's "powerful performance."
As we reported previously, the DVD will be released in Region 1 format on 4 September. The DVD cover features but one O'Donovan brother, and that's Cillian's Damien: we've got a larger version of the cover in our Barley promo gallery. Listed DVD extra features include commentary by director Ken Loach and a retrospective of Loach's career, a short Channel 4-produced documentary called Carry On, Ken.
U.K. film news and reviews site Allocine indicates that Barley was released in Region 2 format in the U.K. back on 6 November 2006 as part of a two-disc special edition. It contains commentary by Loach and the film's historical advisor, Professor Donal O'Driscoll of University College in Cork. The special features also include a profile of Loach, a stills gallery, and the original theatrical trailer.
U.K. fans of Loach should be pleased by Allocine's additional announcement of an upcoming DVD box set retrospective of Loach's career: Ken Loach Collection, Volume 1 and Volume 2, including Barley. These two eight-disc sets will be released in Region 2 format on 3 September.
Sunshine blogging
Two positive blog reviews of Sunshine praise Cillian's role in the film. Fernando Gros calls him "one of the most exciting young actors in film," while New York Law School professor Arthur S. Leonard admits he went to see Sunshine for Chris Evans but was "more impressed by the work of Cillian Murphy."
An AfterElton.com writer calls Rippner a sexy baddie
Finally, AfterElton.com blogger Lyle Masaki lists Jackson Rippner as one of his "Ten Sexiest Movie Villains," noting,
Murphy convincingly makes his character a clever mastermind who is difficult to outsmart. He never arrogantly rests on the expectation that his plan is flawless, making his confidence alluring.
"Alluring" has such a lovely ring to it, don't you think?
Thanks to Claire Fisher for the AfterElton tip.
