Sunshine news: alternative ending, new picture, and Boyle interview
As we reported last week, the U.K. Sunshine DVD will be released on 27 August. Now there's more news about what will be included on the region 2 DVD, giving you two exciting new reasons to get a hold of it!
The first reason is the DVD extras: SunshineDNA's Gia writes,
I’ve got tons of unseen Sunshine stuff floating around—most of which will be used for the DVD releases worldwide which start from the 27th of August.
In the meantime, she's doling out some new goodies for the North American release, including this lovely still of Cillian as Capa.
The second reason is the DVD's inclusion of an alternative ending. I remember reading that, unlike 28 Days Later..., there was only one ending written for Sunshine. Now Danny Boyle tells Wild About Movies that:
"There is a slightly different ending which is on the DVD, but it's something that we shot after we shot our original ending. We did an experimental kind of thing with much more of a debate ending. We shot it but we never finished it really. It's incomplete even on the DVD because it never seemed to be right from our point of view. We couldn't feel that it was correct. It's complicated because there is an ending on the DVD, an actual epilogue ending which we shot as a test which is in a park in London and then we sent that to Fox because we had run out of money and said, 'This is the ending we want to do. Can we go where we need to go—somewhere with snow—to shoot it?' which is the sequence at the end that you see in Stockholm. It's the same scene, but that's not the ending I'm talking about. It's earlier than that scene with Pinbacker."
Boyle also talks more about his rehearsal process. We've all heard that Cillian was "offered" a spot in Brian Cox's physics lab, but according to Boyle, flight school's probably not an option should he decide to give up acting:
"They flew a 747 on a simulator at Heathrow which is an amazing experience because only pilots do that and are only allowed on this thing. They actually got to land—or try to land—a 747 on this simulator and they crashed it every time. Just so you know. They may tell you otherwise, but I was there and each one of them crashed it."
Edge is in the can—possible April release?
Sienna Miller recently told ComingSoon.net that filming is finished on The Edge of Love. This comes alongside IMDb's report of a 10 April 2008 release date for Edge in the Netherlands. We're not sure if this will be the world premiere or how releases in other countries will shake out—or even whether post-production will cooperate with this date—but it definitely gives us something to look forward to. As always, we'll keep you posted.
MTV wants Cillian to meet Harry
Shawn Adler of MTV Movies Blog plays casting director, filling the roles for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. He pegs Cillian as Morfin Gaunt. Here's how J.K. Rowling described Voldemort's uncle:
"Several of his teeth were missing. His eyes were small and dark and stared in opposite directions." Harry can't tell what color his hair is because it's so matted down with dirt. Sociopath, only speaks in parseltongue.
Hmmm ... doesn't sound like my image of Cillian, but Adler does make a good case for his casting when he adds, "anyone who saw his take on the Scarecrow knows he can do demented."
Thanks to Emily for the Sunshine DVD tip, Dalia for the Edge release news, and ClaireFisher for the Harry Potter musings.
