New article: Starburst on Sunshine

Britain's Starburst magazine published a nice interview with Cillian last month. He talks about Sunshine, and discusses the similarities between this film and his earlier collaboration with Danny Boyle and Alex Garland:

Yeah, I think there's certainly a connection between Alex Garland's writing in 28 Days Later... and Sunshine in that they are bold, apocalyptic scenarios and everybody always thinks about that. You think what you'd do at the end of the world. And if you can't get drama out of the end of the world, you're not really going to get drama out of anything!

I do like to see what happens to the human condition in extreme situations; they are the sort of roles I've been interested in.

And speaking of extreme situations, Cillian shares a frightening anecdote about the gold spacesuits worn in Sunshine:

They were beautiful to look at but it kind of became impossible for the actors to stay in them for any length of time because they were so hot and we were shooting late summer. So a lot of that was the stunt guys and in fact one stuntwoman just fainted in it and they couldn't pull her out which was quite scary.

Asked if he has any regrets about not doing 28 Weeks Later, Cillian dispels rumours that he didn't do the film because he's become a much bigger star:

Not at all. It was never about us. It was always going to be a different set of characters.

I've just posted scans and a transcript of the article so you can read the whole thing for yourself.

From the Underground: Cillian's "dashing" in Edge

There's been little news from The Edge of Love since filming was moved out of sight of the paparazzi, but the Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye caught up with the actors while filming in the abandoned Aldwych Tube station. Although the article focuses on Keira Knightley, there is one small but revealing mention of Cillian:

Watching Keira intently as she sings is actor Cillian Murphy, handsomely attired in a World War II Army officer's uniform. He plays her dashing future husband William Killick.

I agree completely -- both in print and video interviews, he really seems to earnestly mean what he's saying. And be enthusiastic about it, too. It's very refreshing.
