On this day in history...

Cillian Murphy in Batman Begins
"Can we take the Batmobile?"

Today's highlight on Answers.com, topping Peter the Great's creation of St. Petersburg in 1703 and opening San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge to pedestrians 70 years ago, is this tasty tidbit:

Spotlight: With the popularity of Superman comics in 1938, could a superhero friend be far behind? On this date in 1939, Batman comics made their debut. The only superhero without actual superhuman powers, Batman (a.k.a. Bruce Wayne) set out to protect Gotham City from the forces of evil. Created by cartoonist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, Batman became an instant hit for DC Comics. In 1940, his ward and sidekick, Robin (a.k.a. Dick Grayson), was introduced to help the caped crusader fight the bad guys in Crime Alley.

Quote: "I was obsessed with Batman as a kid. I did the film in part just to be near the Batmobile."—Cillian Murphy, the Scarecrow in Batman Begins.

Now, being the featured quote of the day might not be the surest sign of his success, but we at The CillianSite can't help feeling a little glee whenever the name "Cillian Murphy" pops up in unexpected places!

I second both your thoughts -- it'd be very hard to live the kind of life he seems to appreciate if you had pap following you around. The great actors don't have that, and they don't *need* it.

But I do want him to stay just famous enough that he can continue to be selective with his scripts. He's sure had a great track record so far.

Don't go changing! *g*

I agree with you Anonymous. Because Cillian is not as well-know as other actors, his private life is still his own. What little we do know about his personal life is very average and ordinary and that just makes me like him even more(he's so normal!!). I also like that Cillian wants to be involved with movies that really mean something to himself and his audience--he's not out to satisfy any particular trend. Cillian is definitely amonst my short-list of actors and actresses whom I deeply respect for their talent and bodies of work. And yes...Cillian is still the most stunning man in several universes.

Ya know, i'm almost glad he isn't that famous. It's easier on him, considering he's so private about everything.

That caption is brilliant. Yess, i'd love to take the batmobile for a spin too.
