Detectives in flight

Today's Hollywood Reporter has the latest news about movie distribution deals, including the first news about distribution for Watching the Detectives:

Another romantic comedy, Watching the Detectives, sold to Luxor in Russia/CIS, Lusomundo in Portugal, and Jaguar Distribution for in-flight (internationally).

I certainly hope more news is soon to follow, and that this isn't going straight to in-flight! I'm sure that at the very least, a domestic U.S. distributor will be announced soon (and hopefully we'll get more than just that).

Lest you get excited about catching a glimpse of Cillian's arse at 30,000 feet, you can bet that it and many other things will be censored out of the in-flight version of Detectives. In fact, Jaguar, Detectives' in-flight distributor, recently found itself in hot water for its hilariously bizarre cutting of The Queen. Backstage explained,

All mentions of God are bleeped out of a version of the film distributed to Delta and some other airlines. Jeff Klein, president of Jaguar Distribution ... said it was a mistake, committed by an overzealous and inexperienced employee who had been told to edit out all profanities and blasphemies. ...The editor responsible for the mistake is still working in the Jaguar editing lab.

But I ask you, Jaguar, is Cillian's ass profane or holy? Must you censor it? Earlier this month, I saw that FX TV clipped out Cillian's naughty bits for 28 Days Later..., and I suppose you will have to do the same for Detectives. Bummer. Bleep bless you anyway.

Yes, there is a confirmed arse-spotting in WTD. The owner of said arse is, in fact, in full pursuit of Lucy Liu at the time. 'Tis a funny scene, you betcha!

Ratings and censorship here in the U.S.A. are totally backwards. I agree -- it's ridiculous, especially because the violence stays in and the sex goes out, when it should be the opposite. I just saw the fantastic documentary "This Film Has Not Yet Been Rated," about the biased way Hollywood ratings are done -- I highly recommend it.

The one thing about this issue though is that in-flight distribution is a slightly different thing -- airplanes are all ages, and there's no way to do it otherwise... there is no late night thing they can do. Still, I doubt I'd agree with how Jaguar censors things. And they're doing it for international flights, not just American flights!

Glad you're enjoying our blog!

Sometimes it seems that in the states things are censored so much they seem to want people to be shielded like kids! Sorry, living in Belgium we dont get things censored they just put a higher rating if its really needed. I'd hate not to be able to watch a whole film intact!
And if films come on tv they just put it on later if its not appropriate. I think at least older teens and adults should be able to watch a film the way it was made.

Im still amazed at how much info you manage to find about Cillian:)

Thanks for the praise, Nancy!

Yes, most of the nudity was already cut, but I believe it was Madra Rua who says there we still get at least one a glimpse of his ass. *giggles like an idiot*

MR, is that true?

Love lreading this column. You get such good info here. Anyways, I hope they don't censor out alot of Cillian's goodness, which is weird for them to do because I thought that most of the nude scenes were on the cutting room floor. Funny.
