Your Top 5 Roles That Coulda/Shoulda Gone to Cillian Murphy

News from the world of Cillian's been a bit scant lately. We're still seeing rumours about Scarecrow in The Dark Knight, but they can all be traced back to the Batman On Film website and the wonderfully loose-lipped "Miranda Fox." Meanwhile, the paps are still swarming New Quay hoping for a glimpse of the (gasp!) lesbian kiss, but not much has surfaced regarding our particular interest.

To tide you over this dry spell, you can fill your head with imaginings of what Cillian might have done (or might still do) as you read our second Top 5 collection: "The Top 5 Roles That Coulda/Shoulda Gone to Cillian Murphy." You guys came up with everything from gangsters to vampires to superheroes to wizards—everything but cowboys, surprisingly enough! So what do you think of these casting choices? Agree? Disagree? Leave a comment here to let the writers know.

Thanks to everybody who contributed to this month's Top 5!

Icela, Cillian's now had (at least) two chances to play musicians:

(1) He talked about reading the script for "Control" (the bio-pic about Joy Division's Ian Curtis), a story that comes very close to what you're imagining (though sadly, without the redemption):

(2) And way back in March, right after we launched this site, we wrote about "Once" (the story of a Dublin busker), which was conceived with Cillian in mind; instead the part ended up going to Glen Hansard who'd composed the music:

I hope third time's a charm -- I'd love to see him play a musician too!

Cool choices! Love them. Specially A Clockwork Orange (I still hope to see him as Alex in a stage production) and Interview with the Vampire (I soo think he could have done it much better than Mr. Cruise)

Wow, such good choices!! I mused over a lot of these movies mentioned as well: Velvet Goldmine, Almost Famous, Goodfellas, Interview with the Vampire, Fight Club...

Icela, your #3 is so prescient. I was going to include "Cillian as Iggy Pop in the upcoming biopic" but until a couple of days ago, it had only been rumoured that this movie would be made and that it would star Elijah Wood as the infamous Mr. Osterberg. Elijah's got the blue eyes but he doesn't have the soulfulness, physique, or the ability to play depraved as well as Cillian.

Bonnie, you were so not the only one who enjoyed imagining Cillian in older, classic film roles! I love the fact that we have such a good age range of fans around here.

And Kerry, so glad you enjoyed reading the lists. Thanks for the comments.

I too, liked the Lestat idea, although he's said he wants to stay away from anything creepy or villainish for a while. Everybody had great ideas, and I thank you for including mine, although the movies were much older than those of younger fans...but I guess we all learn from each other, which is super. Thanks so much for a great website, Lilith and Melty_Girl!

sadly i didnt have time this time to do this but i loved reading everyone else's ideas. Especially loved:
-Clark Kent/Superman (who wouldn't love to see him doing this!!?:)
-Sid Vicious
-Alex DeLarge from Clockwork orange
-Lestat (i already love interview with the vampire)
Everyone chose really great roles for him!Let's hope he does something a bit like some of these!
