Rumourmongering: Dark Knight and Telepathy

Cillian Murphy
Scarecrow: Is he in or out?

Just a few days ago we blogged that Cillian would not be appearing in the next Batman movie. Now it looks like a film insider is leaking news to the fans under the pseudonym "Miranda Fox." Among a list of spoilers on the venerable Batman on Film fansite is this gem:

The Scarecrow, played by Cillian Murphy, will be back.

While this news is spinning through the interweb, you might want to take it with a grain of salt. John Allison at Movie Patron is one smart blogger—he checked the keywords in the HTML code for the new Dark Knight website and saw all the other actors listed, except for Cillian. We suspect that if he were to appear, it would be in the final scene as a teaser for the third film, but that's just speculation.

Telepathy has suddenly reappeared on Cillian's IMDb page, though with the caveat "rumored." (Cillian's name was never taken off the director's website, but for many months it's been absent from IMDb.) We don't know who might have made this change, although it's possible that the film's people simply saw that he'd been removed and added him back. The release date hasn't been updated, so it's hard to say what this means—the film may not be any less stuck than it was before.

Kerry, thanks for the Telepathy IMDb heads up!

tsk, rumors can be so confusing. Batman movie will never be the same without Cillian.

I do hope he's involved in the next videogame. You're right -- an afternoon of voicework (and hopefully a nice set of pictures!) and he's done!

Kerry, we've been following all these rumours very carefully. I do hope they're true, but for now it looks like every single one of them can be traced by to Miranda Fox and the Batman On Film website. Unfortunately as rumours like this balloon, it'll be harder to trace them to their original source, but definitely keep your eyes open for independent confirmation.

At the moment, I'm leaning towards any appearance being a teaser for the next film ... just as the playing card was found at the end of the last one to signal the Joker's entrance. Still good news, however, because that might mean a nice juicy role for Scarecrow in #3!

I found this today so it looks like although its stil a rumour it may be true, or he may appear at the end to make people want to see the next batman film:

Or (and I'm hoping it's not this one) maybe he'll be reprising his role as Scarecrow for any new VIDEO GAME that might come along.... That would seem to cover both "he's in" and "he's out." An afternoon's voicework, and he'd be done!
