Peek behind the scenes at the filming of Detectives
Couldn't make it to the Watching the Detectives premiere and now impatiently awaiting its wider release? Then you'll want to check out Michael Cory's Flickr account! Michael just posted a bunch of photographs taken on the set last July. Twelve of his shots feature (a sometimes blurry) Cillian and you can see some of the "role playing" we've heard about—he dresses as everything from an army grunt to a rock star!
We've added these pictures to our Detectives on-location gallery, but if like us you're interested in the whole filmmaking process you'll want to see the whole set at Michael's Flickr page.
New interview in Irish press: Families, religion, and Brendan Gleeson
In today's Sunday World is a jam-packed interview with Cillian that includes his thoughts on everything from families to religion to upcoming projects he hopes to do.
Cillian starts out by telling Esther McCarthy about his devotion to his family (sorry, Keira!) and the impact it's had on his career:
"It's definitely important from a practical point of view," he tells SWM when asked how fatherhood influences his work choices. "You know, it's simple—I'm not happy when I go away from him and my wife. I want them to be with me, that's how it is. I want to be at home more than I'm away, and luckily this job gives me the freedom to do that to a degree."
The success of The Wind That Shakes the Barley in Ireland also seems to have thrilled him, as he mentions that
"Generations of families went to see it. My granny, who hadn't been to see a film since, I think, Titanic, went to see it. It touched a real chord."
Asked about his choice to go to something as light as Watching the Detectives after heavy films like Barley and Sunshine, Cillian says:
"It was a great, interesting little romantic comedy. It was a chance for me to goof around with Lucy in the summertime in New York. I really enjoyed it because I'd done a lot of exhausting, intense films. They're the kind of films I do love to watch, but it was nice to just go and have a bit of fun."
Religion is tackled in this interview too. You'll remember the press recently publicised Cillain's "loss of faith." Here, he explains his thinking behind his move from agnosticism to atheism:
"I was never religious and I recognise that faith and religion are very important to a lot of people. So it's not denigrating them. But from my own point of view it seemed like a more interesting take. It brought home to me how insignificant we are in the whole scheme of things and how were here for such a fleeting second."
He even talks about future projects, confirming rumours of his interest in At Swim-Two Birds:
"Brendan [Gleeson] has written a script of the Flann O'Brien novel, At Swim-Two-Birds, and it's very, very good. A lot of people have said they'd be involved if he makes it and I hope he does. I'd work with Brendan on anything, he's just fantastic."
Cillian in Mexico...
In the press, at least: our newest staff member Kiwi has graciously shared her extensive collection of all things Cillian Murphy. Some of the highlights include Vera Anderson of Cine Premiere being hypnotized by Cillian's blue eyes, Javier Pérez of El Universal announcing the inclusion of "Neil Jordan's irreverent new film" in Mexico City's third International Festival of Contemporary Cinema; and El Economista's Fausto Ponce calling Breakfast on Pluto "exquisite" and comparing it with the works of Charles Dickens and Voltaire.

Welcome, Colin!
