Cillian's next film: Hippie Hippie Shake + site news

Cillian swings into his next role

Cillian Murphy
New role in Hippie Hippie Shake
takes Cillian back to the 60s.
Hope he kept his Pluto wardrobe!

The "bed-hopping, drug fuelled antics" chronicled in Richard Neville's memoir Hippie Hippie Shake: The Dreams, the Trips, the Trials, the Love-ins, the Screw Ups: The Sixties are coming to the big screen—with Cillian in the lead role.

The controversial Australian editor was known for his counterculture magazine, Oz, which in the 1960s became the target of two obscenity suits—one in Australia and one in the U.K. Variety reports that Hippie Hippie Shake uses the U.K. trial "as a metaphor for a journey through the swinging '60s in London."

Also signed on for this jaunt are Cillian's Best Time co-star Sienna Miller, Max Minghella (Syriana), and Australian actor Emma Booth as famous feminist writer Germaine Greer. Beeban Kidron (Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason) will direct and filming is scheduled to begin this fall.

ETA: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures is already set to distribute this "counterculture dramedy," so hopefully Hippie Hippie Shake will be a high profile film.

Great news... seems like a really interesting project, to say the least. Gotta trust his judgement when he picks his roles, he never dissapoints me

If this does not get our favorite Irish actor more of the better roles and greater (deserved)recognition on this side of the pond and elsewhere, I don't know what will! Can't wait! Hope it does not fall through on financing or anything else! Having Sienna Miller will also help raise the profile as well, I'm sure.

I agree that he knows how to choose roles -- and it's about time we got to see him appear as a bed-hopping, drug fuelled character!!
