Slave to fashion

Cillian Murphy in Wonderland Cillian Murphy in Zoo Magazine
See scans of these articles and more in our Article Spreads gallery

Although interviewers often comment on his slacker chic, Cillian's always been willing to don the latest for the fashion rags. The April/May issue of Wonderland (out now in Europe and hitting select North American newsstands soon) has a nice spread along with an A–Z list of Cillian factoids. (Don't blame me if you too start looking around whenever you hear a duck quack!) And I already blogged about the Zoo Magazine story, but now you can see the whole spread. Finally, I've posted the pictures that accompanied last month's article in The Independent.

Lucy Liu talks about what's in Detectives—and what's not!

Just in time for the world premiere of Watching the Detectives at Tribeca, New York Magazine has an engaging interview with Lucy Liu. She talks about playing Violet, the alluring femme fatale who turns the world upside down for Neil (played by Cillian). Full of practical jokes and what Lucy calls a "bohemian version of role play", this film is sounding less and less like your run-of-the-mill romantic comedy and more like one of my old favourites, Something Wild.

Lucy is full of praise for Cillian's performance, which is wonderful to hear even if it is accompanied by some less welcome news:

I know he wanted to broaden his horizons, and he has a natural ability for comedy. He really put it out there—there's a lot of nudity, you know. [Unfortunately, most if not all of the naked scenes were cut from the final print.] It's nice to have that energy even though you're doing something extreme.

The movie's not out yet and I'm already eager for the director's cut DVD!

Huge thanks to Ashlee for providing these scans for our gallery!

Liz, thanks for the update! It's great to hear that even non-Cillian fans are reacting positively to it -- I really hope the distributors pick it up quickly so we can all see it!

Hey all, here's a link to a report/pics/videos from someone who attended the premiere. He/She had really nice things to say about Cillian.

Oh my God, he looks incredible in those pics.... he definitely knows how to be sexy, how could he not be aware.... it's sinful and I'm loving it. And the article is great, definitely a must read for all Cillian fans.

Cilly as Model Man

You guys are right; he is too short and too wary of superficialities of the fashion business. Female models have to be 5'9 or taller... He does look great in front of the camera, however, whether a film or a fashion shot. Loved these newest shots today.

Modeling

Like many actors, Cillian is too short to qualify as a professional model. Modeling has even narrower physical requirements than Hollywood does for its top stars.

Did you know that models tend to have a 7:1 head to body ratio, whereas the average person has a 5:1 ratio? They're all legs!

Well, despite my misgivings that was a really good article. And I'd agree with you about the modelling, Bonnie, except that I think he'd find it even harder to stay out of the superficiality of the fashion industry than the movie industry.

Cilly Coulda Been A Male Supermodel
Reply #8 on : Tue May 01, 2007, 08:43:10
Ever notice how many fashion/pseudo fashion spreads the man gets? He coulda been a model if he had not been able to act so well; the camera loves him! The Independent article makes a lot of that. Too bad they cut out the nudity in Detectives.

Sons of Mr. Greengenes / ukelele

Dayu, I'm dying of curiosity to know what Cillian's band sounded like too! But sadly, I doubt we'll ever get to hear them. I think he's said that there were only cassette demos, and probably not many. I figure if anyone beyond Cillian's immediate circle had them, they would have been put on the Internet by now.

And Trish, ukelele is just way too cool for words. The man is too hip for his own good.
