The Best Time of Our Lives doesn't sound great for Cillian's Killick

Warning: The following contains "spoilers" regarding Cillian's new project, The Best Time of Our Lives. Since this is a historical event, it's not quite accurate to call plot details "spoilers," but if you prefer to know nothing about the film going in, you might not want to read!

Some meatier articles have appeared regarding The Best Time of Our Lives. According to Monica Bartyzel at Cinematical:

The film will center on a love triangle between Thomas, his wife Caitlin (Lindsay Lohan) and his childhood friend Vera Phillips (Keira Knightley), who was married to a man named William Killick (who will be played by Murphy). Less than happy about his wife's close relationship with Thomas, and being less-than-centered after a military mission in Greece, he grabbed a machine gun, a grenade, and then attacked the poet's house.

And last November, before Cillian signed up for the part, The Observer reported that the film will be produced by Killick's own granddaughter and predicted that the role of Dylan Thomas might go to Dougray Scott. Vanessa Thorpe had this to say about the biopic:

The screenplay for The Best Time of Our Lives has been written by Knightley's mother, the playwright Sharman McDonald, and charts the complex emotional bond shared by Thomas, his wife, Vera and her eventual husband William Killick. At its dramatic heart is a violent attack on the poet's home by the Killicks. Vera Phillips and Thomas had met up again in London, where she was working as a singer and he was writing scripts for government propaganda films.

Sounds like it will be an extra-passionate role for Cillian. Shooting is set to begin in Wales in May. If you'd like to get a glimpse into this film's setting, take a look at the Dylan Thomas Trail (Stops 11 and 12 are particularly interesting) while you can find a brief introduction to the incident through the Newquay visitor's site.

As always, we'll keep you posted as we hear more!

Actually, I was doing a bit more reading and discovered that Caitlin was born in England to Irish parents, which makes her 2nd gen. Irish (the way it's counted in the U.K.). Her parents were from Co. Claire. At some point she did go back, tho, and spent much of her time in Ireland.

It sounds like she was a fascinating woman, with a real spark that was more than a match for Dylan. What a passionate, if tragic, story. One article I read called Dylan and Cait "the Sid and Nancy of their time."

Nancy, it's true that Dylan Thomas was Welsh, but Caitlin Mcnamara Thomas was indeed Irish.

And Lil was jokingly referring to the fact that Cillian's character, William Killick, was clearly not having the best time of his life when he shot up the Thomas' house!

Actually, I think she'd have to pull off a WELSH accent. Unless I'm wrong but i remembered reading on e of hte posts in cillian_daily in LJ that Lindsay's character was Welsh, along with her husband. But I might be wrong. But i don't understand the title. Why might it not be so great for Cillian's Killick?

I agree, it does sound like an interesting story. And I was very impressed with "The Winter Guest", which Sharman Macdonald wrote before this. (I had no idea she was Keira's mother!) So I imagine this met Cillian's "strong script" criteria.

Still a bit skeptical of Lindsay's ability to pull off an Irish accent, but we'll just have to see!
