Cillian rocks the vote
Over the next few months, lucky Cillian fans in Ireland should see a lot more of him. Rock the Vote has just announced that Cillian, along with other celebs like comedian Dara Ó Briain, will launch their campaign to encourage young people's participation in the upcoming Irish election. Ireland's Rock the Vote recently teamed up with the successful U.S. organisation, which since 1990 has been registering young voters. Combatting the lowest average election turnout in Europe, Rock the Vote Ireland hopes that stars like Cillian will bring home the message that their voices can be heard.
New Sunshine interviews
It's such an exciting time to be a Cillian fan! Hot on the heels of the North American Barley news we're getting lots of Sunshine previews. SFX's April issue (out now in the U.K.) has a nice interview with Cillian). He's always said that diversity is important, but convincingly pulling off a world-class physicist has to rate among his most challenging roles. Melty already blogged about some of the preparation that went into this part, but here Cillian gives us more insight into how he got inside such a big brain:
"I read a lot of books. A lot of them would be too far advanced for me but for me it was mostly to try and understand what it means to think like that and to have that great of an intellect and to feel that what you're involved in is the big question of why, and what that does to a mindset."
Danny Boyle gives us a different perspective on that preparation in The Telegraph. He also has very positive things to say about Cillian's growth since their last project:
"To be honest, I had to push him quite hard on 28 Days Later…, and he's changed," says Boyle. "He's made a couple of really good films, he's worked with some really good people, and I think he's become aware of his ability. He's a completely different person with regard to his enthusiasm and his appetite for it."
Of course, we all knew Cillian was getting better with every role, but it's nice to have this confirmed!
More reviews and win Sunshine tickets!
A few more Sunshine reviews are starting to trickle in. We liked this bloggers's reaction after a Sunshine pre-screening, and EntertainmentWise.com has some more details about the diverse personalities aboard the Icarus II.
If you're in or around London, be sure to enter EntertainmentWise.com's draw for an advance screening on 4 April. Good luck!
Site updates and a "new" pic
I just added a gorgeous photograph to the gallery, taken by John Hryniuk in Toronto during the September 2005 premiere of Breakfast on Pluto. (Back when he had that long hair I loved.)
We've also retooled the Latest Work section. Go there anytime you want to see the most recent status on rumoured projects and what's out now.
Thanks to Bluestocking at LiveJournal's Brit_Actors for the SFX scan.
