Last words + new pic/audio + more reviews

What would your last words be?

Sunshine
Capa's last message

From Sunshine's New Zealand site:

As you near the sun, contact with earth is fading. This may be your last chance to record what may be your final thoughts and messages to your friends, family, and mankind at large...
What will you say?

Warning: Have some tissues handy when you click that link. Capa's last message to earth is a weeper—especially if you're in North America forced to wait for an autumn release! But wherever you are, you can help spread Sunshine by recording your own last words. Visit the New Zealand site for details.

Audio clips and a new TIFF pic

This lovely photo surfaced today, along with an interview from last September when Cillian was in Toronto. Barrett Hooper (a man after my own heart) admits that he missed some of what Cillian said because he got lost in his blue eyes. Fortunately for him (and us) he recorded the interview; you can hear a few snippets at Now Magazine.

As he often does, Cillian discusses his family's personal experience with the Tans as well as Ken Loach's process. What's new here are his thoughts on how the casting affected his preparation for the film. In creating Damien, he explains

"…maybe there was something in me that Damien was, that Ken felt he could see in Damien … it's the least intellectual film I've ever done, with the least amount of character development—you're in the moment, you're in it with these people, and you're reacting as you would have done."

I guess it's not hard to figure out your motivation when, as Cillian says, "it's in your DNA".

More Barley news

And there's even more about the filmmaking process in today's New York Post, which is worth a read just to see Cillian's humour shine through. So often he's presented as the uber-serious actor—it's nice to see him having a laugh with Ken Loach.

Finally, more reviews are rolling in, including the L.A. Loyolan, which calls Barley "the best Irish import since Guinness." Read more reviews in our press archive.

Thanks to LiveJournal's Hypemovie for the Sunshine tip!

Thanks for your kind wishes for the site, Mici! And yes, I got sniffly too. It hit me harder, I think, because I started watching with a bouncy "new clip" excitement that vanished as soon as Capa dropped his head. From that point on, I was a weepy mess. The movie'll do me in!

And I agree, Kerry, about the numb feeling you'd get when you realise that all you can leave is words. I haven't a clue what I'd say in that situation.

It really is tearjerking. I think its also because imagining Cillian being gone forever is horrible too!(as well as Capa)
I'm unsure what I'd actually record in that situation, I think thats probably the reason he didn't cry, because it was so unreal and numbness set in.
Looking forward to seeing Sunshine more now, though i think tissues will be called for.

Wow, that's very intense. This kind of thing makes long for last messages from my parents, but for different reasons, it was impossible for either of them to record such a thing. I wonder if I will ever record such a message some day... maybe you think you will, but then again, it's a very unpleasant thing to get down to actually doing.

wow. yes, that was a powerful clip for me. I recorded my dad's last message to his grandchildren as he was dying of cancer. He knew he was going very soon and actually died 4 days later. I have not brought myself to watch it but it will be a year May 30th. I think that will be the day we all watch. I honestly don't know what I would say myself. That is something to ponder....
