The Irish Examiner reports that everyone in Cork turned out for tonight's premiere of The Wind That Shakes the Barley, and it was "greeted with rapturous applause." All the principals attended, including Cillian, who had family members in tow.
Ken Loach again remarked to reporters that the film's most voceriferous critics hadn't even seen it, and Cillian commented:
People should go and see the film and judge for themselves. In my opinion, it’s a very fair look at what was a very complex situation.
Unison.ie said:
Local man Cillian Murphy ...was the main attraction for the hundreds of fans who lined the red carpet. ...The film had a personal element for the Cork-born actor as one of his relatives was shot by the Black and Tans.
Every family in Cork has had some connection. My grandfather was shot at while he was playing music and a cousin of mine in Passage West was shot by the Tans and died.
I'll update this post tomorrow if there's any additional news from the premiere.
Meanwhile, Gia over at the Sunshine blog/site, made a very exciting announcement today: they've got director Danny Boyle introducing a first look at Sunshine, starring you-know-who, speaking in a perfect American accent. But wait... there will be more of these videos to come, so subscribe to the Sunshine video podcast too, by pasting this url into iTunes: http://www.sunshinedna.com/videos/?rss=true.
Thanks to LiveJournal's kirajuul for the tip on Sunshine!
