Before you get too excited that an official website for The Wind That Shakes the Barley has finally appeared, let me explain that as of posting time, the site is only a single home page with the graphic from the poster and the trailer, both of which we've seen before. Still, it seems likely that more content will be added soon, because we are swiftly approaching the European release date on June 23rd, so we can all keep an eye out for new schtuff on the site. And on the heels of an enhanced official website, perhaps we'll get the announcement of a North American release date? Admittedly, that might not exactly follow, but we fans over here have to hope anyway!
Today, The Irish Post revealed that right-wing "two-faced tabloids" are talking out of both sides of their mouths about Barley, printing one thing in Britain and the opposite in Ireland:
The Sun and the Daily Mail newspapers both last week hypocritically feigned delight at the "Irish success" [of Barley at Cannes] in their editions in Ireland, while in their British editions the film was rubbished and derided as "anti-British" propaganda. ...The day after the Palme d'Or was announced, the Irish Sun ran a double-page spread entitled "Cillian's men give Brits a tanning in Cannes", celebrating a victory for the movie's "no-holds barred" depiction of the Black 'n' Tans who "subjected Irish citizens to horrific violence for years". On the same day in Britain, The Sun castigated the movie calling it a "brutally anti-British film." It accused the movie of dragging the reputation of Britain through the mud. The Daily Mail in Britain also vehemently criticised the movie... [while] Ireland's Daily Mail disingenuously praised the movie's victory.
