More pictures from the Hippie set + Sunshine DVD info

More additions to the Hippie gallery
We have a few more pictures of Cillian and his co-stars relaxing between takes on the set of Hippie Hippie Shake. Unfortunately the pictures are tagged but they do offer a first look at Nina Liu, an Australian actress who plays Jenny Kee, Richard Neville's other love interest. Richard had relationships with both Louise Ferrier and Jenny and later, in the spirit of the free loving '60s, they engaged in a ménage à trois.
Sunshine on DVD in January
According to VideoETA, the North American (Region 1) release of the Sunshine DVD is scheduled for 8 January 2008; however, as always, keep in mind that release dates are subject to change. There are no details on any special features but the Region 2 version was packed with extras so hopefully we can look forward to the same. Cillian fans in the U.K. might also be interested in the newly released Danny Boyle Collection, a three DVD box set containing Sunshine and 28 Days Later… as well as The Beach.

Hippie skinny dip
7 October 2007 at 01:21 PM | by Melty_Girl, with Lilith

See the full monty—
well, not quite, in our on location gallery
I'm happy to report that director Beeban Kidron is an equal opportunity filmmaker when it comes to depicting Hippie Hippie Shake's sexual revolution era story.
Cillian fans, I'm sure you'll be very happy to discover that Sienna Miller is not the only one who's taking off her clothes in this movie. The News of the World has the latest photos to turn up from the shoot, and the scene is a group skinny dip.
I've posted a cropped photo here, but the NotW's figleafed shots are in our on location gallery.

More Hippie pics + press clip additions

A few more smooches
We've got nine more Cillian/Sienna Miller snog pics: the last three photos on page 2 of the Hippie Hippie Shake on location gallery, plus six more on page 3.
Alternative Press, Times clips
We just posted (text and spread) a 28 Days Later...-era interview with Cillian from Alternative Press. In it, he recalls how the September 11, 2001 attacks on the U.S. occurred during filming.
"...part of you was going, 'Oh, my God, we're just making a stupid film, [when] horrendous events have taken place and the world is in chaos and all.' But then, there's a part of you that says also, 'We're making a film that reflects this [feeling] as well, or, I think, comments on it in some way.' I definitely think [the film] does say something to Americans now, about paranoia and the feeling that we're all vulnerable nowadays."
We've also got a fun appearance by Cillian on The London Times' men's style page—check it out.
Thanks to Annie Nonymous for the press clips!

Hippie delayed by Notting Hill protests + Greer angry too, but Ferrier advised the director
3 October 2007 at 09:13 PM | by Melty_Girl
Notting Hill residents unhappy with Hippie invasion

Sienna and Cillian in another famous London locale;
see more photos from the Hippie Hippie Shake shoot
The Independent is reporting that the people of Notting Hill rose up to protest Hippie Hippie Shake coming to their neighborhood for three days of shooting. Apparently, there were
...fears over the disruption caused by three days of shooting and that swathes of resident parking bays were being suspended as film-makers cleared the streets of modern day Toyota Priuses to replace them with authentic Sixties Ford Anglias.
It's not completely clear how long shooting was delayed, though ContactMusic.com says filming was halted on Monday (1 October). Whatever the case, Working Title Films met with concerned residents and is paying them off to put up with the hassle. Well, I wish I could take part in this disruption and compensation! To those of you in London: please if you encounter the Hippie shoot! We love to publish fans' stories and photos.
Neville's cohorts have different takes on Hippie
One of the real people who's being depicted in Hippie Hippie Shake is also angry. Famous sex-positive feminist author Germaine Greer (The Female Eunuch), who's being portrayed by Australian newcomer Emma Booth, blogged caustically for The Guardian this summer:
It's getting harder and harder to be a real person. You used to have to die before assorted hacks started munching your remains and modelling a new version of you out of their own excreta.

Detectives release news + love to our secret admirer
28 September 2007 at 11:49 AM | by Lilith, with Pierspaul
Detectives release news!
Finally, we can bring you some good news about the long-awaited release of Watching the Detectives! According to The Hollywood Reporter:
The screwball romantic comedy Watching the Detectives starring Lucy Liu and Cillian Murphy, will be released in North America early next year via Peace Arch Entertainment.
Want something more definite than "early next year"? How does February 14th sound? According to MovieWeb:
Peach Arch president and COO John Flock stated, "Its the right film for us because you don't see a lot of good independent romantic comedies." The film is eyeing a Valentine Day release date.
A review of the film recently popped up at the Glen Diary blog (probably seen at Detectives' premiere last spring) with praise for both Cillian and Lucy's performances:
Watching the Detectives is mostly about this odd relationship, and it really wouldn't work if not for the chemistry of its two leads, who create a similar dynamic as Jonathan Demme's Something Wild. It's certainly a nice stretch for Murphy to be doing this kind of comedy and he's really likeable in a similar way as John Cusack or Steve Carell in 40-Year-Old Virgin, and Lucy Liu somehow manages to make the bratty 6-year-old demeanor of Violet adorable and even endearing. The Cusack comparisons even extends to Neil’s video store setting and the patter among Neil's nerdy coworkers, which is similar to that of High Fidelity.
Love to our admirer
We've just received a new donation from our dear supporter "Annie Nonymous." Thank you so much for helping keep this site running and ad-free!

Looks like we'll be getting many photos from Hippie Hippie Shake, thanks to the tabloids' obsession with Sienna Miller. Better shots of the anti-war protest scene just popped up at JustJared.com. Calling hair and makeup: bad wig alert for Cillian—his real hair is showing!

First glimpse of Cillian on set of Hippie
23 September 2007 at 11:50 AM | by Melty_Girl, with Lilith, Madra Rua, and Pierspaul
Hippie Hippie Shake photos of Sienna Miller have recently begun to wash up on the Internet shores, and now Cillian Murphy fans are getting splashed a little too by way of proximity. We've just posted the first shots of Cillian as Richard Neville. I think the middle part in his hair is really amusing!

See full-size photos in our Hippie Hippie Shake on location gallery

More photos of Sienna at the source: 89 Celebrities. E.T.A.: Right after I posted this blog entry, a couple more photos turned up. Here's the thumbnails; the watermarked medium resolution shots are in the gallery.
Interestingly, Working Title Films is describing the film as a love story, which I hadn't seen in any previous description:
Murphy plays Richard Neville, the editor of the notorious satirical magazine Oz, and Miller plays his girlfriend, Louise. In an era of free love and flower power, the film follows their love story as Neville and his friends launch the magazine and find themselves fighting for both the magazine's survival and for the freedom of their generation.

Cillian to star opposite idol Pacino
12 September 2007 at 03:05 PM | by Melty_Girl

Al Pacino, Salvador Dalí
A dream is about to come true for Cillian: he just signed on to star opposite one of his biggest idols, Al Pacino. And the film in question, Dali & I: The Surreal Story, promises yet more '60s and '70s period interest for us Cillian fans, with Pacino as surrealist artist Salvador Dalí and Cillian as his disciple. The Hollywood Reporter explains:
The movie, which will span the 1960s-80s, follows the time in Dali's life when most of his great work was behind him and he became more flamboyant. Dali ... developed a mentor-protege relationship with a young art dealer named Stan Lauryssens, who will be played by Murphy. Based on Lauryssens' autobiographical book Dali and I.
Writer/director Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, Lord of War) will helm the film, which will be shot in Spain and New York early next year.
Cillian has long cited Pacino as one of his inspirations, often mentioning a teenage viewing of Pacino in the 1973 film Scarecrow as being the first time he realized how powerful film acting could be.
E.T.A.: I turned up Stan Lauryssens's website, and he sounds like quite the character. This crime fiction and history author says that before he met Dali in the 1980s, he was scamming his way across Europe and America selling fake art, fake diamonds and "non-existent real estate." I do wonder about his fascination with Nazi war criminals though, many of whom he has met and written about; there are photos of some of them on his site. One more note about the film: an earlier version of the Dali and I script was termed a "black comedy."

Scream Awards nomination + AskMen.com vote + Hippie shaking + Slate's Spoiler Special on Sunshine + great reviews for Barley DVD
5 September 2007 at 10:55 PM | by Melty_Girl, with Lilith
Cillian's second Scream Awards nomination

The nominations have just been announced for the second annual Scream Awards, which salute the best of horror, sci-fi, fantasy and comics, and once again, Cillian has been chosen. Last year, it was a nomination for "Most Vile Villain" as Scarecrow, while this year it's for "Sci-Fi Star" for Sunshine. Cillian faces some stiff competition: Christian Bale (The Prestige), Hugh Jackman (The Fountain), Shia LaBeouf (Transformers), and Clive Owen (Children of Men). A panel of industry pros picked the nominees, but the public selects the winners: starting 7 September, we can go to iFilm's Scream Awards page and vote for Cillian. The show airs on Spike TV on 23 October.
I've added this fun pop award nomination to our comprehensive list of Cillian's awards and nominations.
Vote for Cillian in AskMen.com's Top 49 Men poll

Speaking of voting for Cillian, you can do just that right now at AskMen.com's Top 49 Men poll. They're looking to "select the men that have best represented our gender over the past year." I received an email from AskMen about this list, so they clearly don't mind if women vote too!

Dark Knight moves forward + Zonad explained + new Sunshine photo and our ratings + new Collective member
20 August 2007 at 11:45 PM | by Melty_Girl and Pierspaul
New Dark Knight photo, first footage
While Cillian’s participation in The Dark Knight has yet to be officially confirmed, another photograph has surfaced that seems to show Cillian on the Dark Knight set sitting with several characters dressed as Batman, in the same parking garage setting in which he was last spied. The release of these pictures was not sanctioned by Warner Brothers, and their legal department has issued cease and desist letters to some sites that posted the photo, so we will not post it here. However, you can see photos taken by lucky fans who witnessed The Dark Knight filming and got to meet Cillian in Chicago in our Fandom section.
On 11 August, a Dark Knight panel was held at Wizard World Chicago where the first the first official film footage was shown followed by a Q&A. Participants from the film were director Chris Nolan, writers Jonah Nolan and David Goyer, and stars Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart and Gary Oldman. WizardUniverse.com has details of the film footage and a transcript of the Q&A.
The mysterious Zonad revealed!
The mystery surrounding Cillian’s appearance in John Carney’s Zonad, a film long listed on IMDb as a 2003 release, appears to have been solved. According to a feature on Carney in Variety, Zonad was a homemade pilot that never actually saw the light of day, or as producer Ed Guiney calls it, "a glorified read-though on video.” Writer Adam Dawtrey sums up the plot:
