Peacock needs extras and stand-ins

Copeland Creative Talent is looking for extras of all types and ages for Peacock. If you're in Iowa, or can be in Iowa from 6 May to 8 June, you should give it a whirl! There will be an open casting call in Lorimor on Saturday and another in Greenfield on Sunday, but you can also mail or email them a photo. See the Copeland Creative Peacock page for all the details.

They are also looking for six stand-ins, including one who's "Male, 5'9", brown hair, very slim build"—I would imagine that's for Cillian. Actually, given the storyline, "Female, 5'9", brown hair" might be a second stand-in for him!

We hope that anyone who tries out will let us know how it goes.

Carrabba's Cillian crush

Here's a fun media mention of Cillian. Today, The Hartford Courant reran a September 2007 Metromix interview with emo rocker Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional. The interviewer asked Carrabba, "Many straight men have crushes on you. Who is your man-crush?" Carrabba replied:

"Cillian Murphy. He’s a beautiful man. He’s so beautiful he’s like a woman."

Film site OutNow.ch has some new production stills from The Edge of Love, including this new one of Cillian as William Killick entertaining his wife and friends with a song. Or maybe Keira Knightley is singing? I wonder if Cillian is really playing piano—and what's the song?

Please if you spot any other new photos or a new poster from the movie!

Edge of Love to open Edinburgh Film Festival

The Edge of Love has been chosen as the opening film for this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival, which runs from 18 to 29 June. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Keira Knightley, Sienna Miller, Matthew Rhys and director John Maybury are all scheduled to attend the festival. There's no mention of Cillian attending; it is likely that he will still be in Iowa filming Peacock at that time.

Variety quotes EIFF artistic director Hannah McGill:

"I couldn’t be happier to be opening this most auspicious festival with this utterly seductive and fascinating film, which stars some of the most charismatic young performers in the business, and affirms John Maybury as one of our most important directors. It's a film that I personally adore..."

Edge release date + Peacock auditions on Sunday

June release for Edge of Love in U.K.

It seems that U.K. fans won't have to wait long much longer to see The Edge of Love, as Empire and MSN U.K. are reporting a release date of 20 June. There's no information on a North American release date, but we'll let you know as soon as we hear any news.

Peacock casting call on Sunday in Iowa

On 24 March we blogged that PMS Casting is looking for actors to fill some of the supporting roles in Cillian’s upcoming film Peacock. The Cedar Rapids Gazette has details of auditions taking place on 6 April, so actors and fans in the Des Moines area should not miss this opportunity to be in a film with Cillian.

The web site for nightclub Café de Paris features this lovely shot on the page that details how to rent their space for film or photo shoots. Apparently, the Piccadilly venue dates back to 1924, making it an ideal set for The Edge of Love.

The photo appears to give us a sneak peek at the wartime courtship of Captain William Killick (Cillian) and Vera Phillips (Keira Knightley).

Peacock casting in Iowa

Production for Cillian’s new film, Peacock, is underway, and The Des Moines Register reports that filming will take place in and around Des Moines, Iowa starting 6 May, with local auditions for supporting roles being held in April. PMS Casting has a casting notice detailing the supporting characters being cast. The Iowa casting director is looking for "good actors who look and feel like 'real folks'."

Spoiler alert: If you click on the character names at the bottom of the casting notice, you will be able to read parts of the script. The casting notice also gives more details about the storyline and Cillian's character:

John Skillpa, a retiring, shy and completely nondescript bank employee, leads a double life as Emma, his female alter-ego, who, so far, has never ventured beyond the boundaries of John's house. But when a train derails in John's backyard, the nosy neighbors in his small town of Peacock, Nebraska finally meet John's "wife"—and the fragmented sides of John's split personality begin to rip asunder...

Edge of Love web site coming

Here's something for us to keep an eye on: theedgeoflove.co.uk. The official domain for The Edge of Love is online, though the full web site isn't ready yet. Hopefully it will go live soon, and with video clips!

Edge of Love going to Cannes in May?

The prestigious Cannes Film Festival lineup for this year has not yet been chosen, but according to the The Hollywood Reporter, The Edge of Love is likely to be selected. So we might be seeing the film's glamorous cast on the red carpet in France in mid-May. The slate will be announced next month.

New photo from the Hippie set

An extra from Hippie Hippie Shake, Leela Tikadar, has a photo of her and another extra with the film's principals, Cillian, Chris O'Dowd, Sienna Miller, and Max Minghella on her MySpace page (ETA/Warning: commenters assert that her page has a virus). It's a charming candid shot.

Cillian narrates documentary + new French scans

Cillian rides a Wave

Cillian has a new film role, and it's something unexpected: documentary narrator. It's for the Irish surfing documentary Wave Riders, which just won the audience award at the Dublin International Film Festival. It will next show at the Belfast Film Festival on 19 April.

More details about the movie are on another page of our News section: the Latest Work page.

French magazine scans

We've just added two new French article spreads, from 2006 issues of Première and Ciné Live, plus a better scan of a 2007 Ciné Live article.

Advance word on Edge + new images

Bamigboye on The Edge of Love

Daily Mail columnist Baz Bamigboye has an article about Keira Knightley recording tracks for The Edge of Love soundtrack. Bamigboye mentions that he has seen the film and states, "I’m sure it’s going to be a contender at Cannes and at other film festivals this year." While he has high praise for the performances of both Knightley and Sienna Miller, he goes on to say, "All four leads are brilliant when the story darkens in Wales."

Hopefully we will be hearing a lot more about this film in the coming months.

Dark Knight and Ivy image updates

We've added a few more posters and an on location shot for The Dark Knight to our gallery, as well as one more shot from Cillian's outing to The Ivy in London. Enjoy!

Pssst: more catchup updates are coming soon.

Thank you Mariah M for all The Dark Knight images and Nairin78 for finding the Ivy shot!

Detectives clips and preview

Three clips from Watching the Detectives have been available for some time now at ComingSoon.net, but juicier scenes are starting to hit YouTube. But before we cut to the video, I have to make a comment, and it's a comment that may be unpopular here: I got my hands on a review copy of Detectives, and as a Cillian fanatic, it chagrins me to say that I think it's a very weak film. There's a lot I could say about why, but I don't want to spoil it for others. Obviously, this is just my opinion, and everyone is welcome to differ, but I do predict with some confidence that it will receive poor reviews from critics. My hunch is that its amateurish quality has delayed its release.

That said, fans of Cillian will still want to see this flick. This scene and the following two certainly have their charms...

Cillian out on the town + catchup coming

ShowBiz.ie mocks yer man's fashion

The paparazzi captured Cillian out and about in London, and ShowBiz.ie complains that his look isn't high fashion enough: they label it "Geography Teacher Chic." And because this actor doesn't aim to be a tabloid fixture or spend all his time and money on his clothes, they say he's self-involved with "a severe Corkonian grump on." Wow, the hometown press can be harsh, no?

The three shots snapped are in our gallery.

A note about the site

I just want to quickly mention that currently I'm the only person regularly updating the site, and my computer and I have both been ill lately. There's definitely some catchup work to be done around here, and I owe some folks some email. (You know who you are!) Thanks for your patience while I get back in the groove.

A collective member moves on

With great sadness, I must report that the wonderful Lilith, a founding collective member of The CillianSite, is moving on in order to make more time for other projects. A fantastic writer and editor, Lil will surely be missed.

Cillian to star opposite Ellen Page + Perrier's has sailed?

Split personality role for Cillian in Peacock

Variety reports today that Cillian will shoot the new film Peacock in May, opposite Juno star Ellen Page... or perhaps, it could be said, opposite himself:

...Murphy's character, a split personality, fools the town (of Peacock, Nebraska) into believing his two alter egos are man and wife. Page plays a struggling young mother who holds the key to his past and sparks a battle between the personalities.

Fans of Breakfast on Pluto and those who were excited by prospect of the stalled project Telepathy, in which Cillian was to star as twins, will surely be thrilled at the prospect of this dual role. Sounds like Cillian is looking forward to Peacock:

"Peacock stunned me as a script from start to finish," Murphy said. "It offers an incredible challenge to an actor—one I couldn't turn down."

James McAvoy now linked to Perrier's Bounty

Last June, we blogged about a project Cillian was rumored to be considering: the crime dramedy, Perrier's Bounty. It looks as though that ship has probably sailed: The Hollywood Reporter and other sources now say that James McAvoy is poised to sign on for the starring role, alongside his wife, Anne-Marie Duff, and Cillian is no longer mentioned.

Detectives not until April? + Cillian and Sly?!?

Soter says release will be delayed

Since we've gotten so close to the reported Valentine's Day limited release in the U.S. for Watching the Detectives, and I've seen no promotion for Cillian's next film other than the trailer being released on the Internet, I decided to do some digging. Looks like the movie may not be coming out next week after all. On 16 January, Detectives director Paul Soter blogged on his comedy troupe Broken Lizard's MySpace page:

... and some of you have kindly inquired about my movie, Watching the Detectives. I had been told initially that it would be given a limited release in mid-February, but now I'm hearing more like April. Unfortunately that's often the deal with indie films. I'll give you info as I get it ...

As will The CillianSite—stay tuned.

Cillian and Stallone rumor

Here's a weird one: according to Dark Horizons, Sylvester Stallone is set to star as a hitman in the $40 million remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson film, The Mechanic, and MGM is going after Ryan Gosling, Ben Foster, Elijah Wood and Cillian for the role of Stallone's protege. Can you imagine Cillian actually taking the part?

Paste Powerhouse 100 + Detectives review

"Who are the power players in the world of quality cinema?"

The staff of Paste, a rising pop/alternative culture magazine, just announced their third annual Art House Powerhouse 100. Cillian is listed as one of their favorite independent film figures:

Murphy is just a shade too unusual to make a standard leading man, so the roles he takes tend to emphasize his lackadaisical charm. Thrust into unbearably intense situations—dying suns or countries emerging from the womb—Murphy hangs back, letting others panic as he stays preternaturally, mesmerizingly calm.

Well, that's often true, but I would offer up Breakfast on Pluto's Kitten and Disco Pigs's Pig as notably uncalm performances.

Detectives: "sweet, hip and fun"

We're getting close to Watching the Detectives's U.S. limited release. It doesn't seem like it's being promoted very aggressively, but let's keep our fingers crossed that it will do well enough to get to audiences beyond New York and Los Angeles. Today, I rediscovered a ComingSoon.net review that followed last year's Tribeca Film Festival screening. We mentioned it in September, but here's another taste of it to whet your appetite for the coming Valentine's candy:

This is a very light comedy with very little drama or darkness, the only real places where you're taken out of the tone of the story being oddly, when Neil and Violet hook up in a steamy love scene, and later, when Neil tries to cater to Violet's attraction towards musicians in a silly musical scene. Both scenes make it seem like Soter doesn't always have a clear idea where this story is going, but fortunately, things are pulled together by the end, and other than those two moments, (Paul) Soter shows promise as a filmmaker with what ends up being a sweet, hip and fun indie comedy.

Thanks to the Movie Fanatic for the Powerhouse 100 tip!

I wonder what they talked about.
