Broken premiere
7 April 2013 at 11:05 PM | by Nancy, with Nairin78

See more JDIFF photos
This past February, Dublin kicked off its 11th annual Jameson Dublin International Film Festival (JDIFF) with a showing of Broken. Lucky fans were able to take pictures with and get autographs from Cillian as he walked the red carpet. JDIFF, which runs for 11 days, gave Cillian a chance to honor his Broken co-star Tim Roth and present him with a Volta, which is the Festival's crowning achievement award. While the presentation allowed Cillian to speak eloquently about Roth's acting talent, Roth returned the compliment declaring Cillian "one of THE great actors working today." You can view more photos from the premiere here.
While in town, Cillian could be found walking about the streets, and stopping in at places, such as The Factory to talk to others involved in Irish arts, such as Irish film director, Jim Sheridan.
You can see more photos of Cillian out and about on the streets of Dublin here.

Cillian faves: Movies, books, and ping pong ?
30 March 2013 at 05:39 PM | by Suzan, with Nairin78

See the full drawing here
Fractured Air.com had an original take on a Cillian feature last year, with an illustration instead of a photo and a list of a few of his favorite things instead of an interview about his work, his eyes, and his skillfully evasive answers to personal questions. The feature is all Cillian's words about the music he's listening to this month, including Van Morrison—"I am a big Van fan," he says—as well as what he's reading and watching on TV. The subject matter was an excellent choice as Cillian seems to have fun talking about books and especially music, and his answers tend to reveal that a lot more than typical interviews. Plus, they're really articulate; he may have a side career as a culture critic. Check out the feature here.

Cillian and Cathal Murray 1996
Lucky listeners of Cathal Murray's RTÉ Radio 1 were treated to a special guest DJ appearance by none other than our favorite leading man, Cillian. Cillian continued to show his eclectic taste in music with song choices that ranged from Prince's "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?" to "Fead An Iolar" by Caomhín Ó'Raghallaigh. Cry/Fly begins + Cillian reads Dahl
23 March 2013 at 05:02 PM | by Nancy, with Nairin78
Cry/Fly begins filming

Canadians have been treated this winter to the warm glow of our favorite main man. The city of Beaconia, Manitoba has been all abuzz with excitement over the arrival of Mr. Murphy and his Academy Award winning co-star Jennifer Connelly. The two stars, and their film crew, are in Beaconia to begin filming Cillian's newest Hollywood production, Cry/Fly. The movie follows a mother and son in two different time periods and is set in Minnesota and Northern Canada. We can expect to see Cry/Fly in theatres in 2014. You can read more here.
Cillian reads Roald Dahl
Love to hear that deep, exotic voice? Enjoy the pennings of Roald Dahl? Then you'll want to check out Cillian reading Roald Dahl's stories, An African Story, Beware of the Dog, Katina and They Shall not Grow Old. Fans can listen to an excerpt and purchase these lovely Audiobooks here.

Year end review
2 January 2013 at 12:20 AM | by Hellboy, with Nairin78

See more Broken stills
Happy New Year!
Here's from all of us at The CS wishing you and yours a prosperous 2013. We look forward to another year of watching Cillian's acting greatness on the stage and screen!
To a wrap up the end of 2012, we have a handful of Cillian-errific items to report.
Cillian Site friend Novia recently had the opportunity to interview the writer of Broken. While much of the interview discussed the work going into Broken, Novia asked the writer's opinion of Cillian's involvement in the project. It's always nice to hear that Cillian can generate buzz amongst the cast and crew of a project. The article can be found here.
Another Cillian project created significant buzz as 2012 came to an end. Cry/Fly is the first English language effort from The Milk of Sorrow director Claudia Llosa. Cry/Fly will headline with Cillian Murphy, Jennifer Connelly, and Melanie Laurent.
We'll have to wait to see the result of Cillian teaming up with Labyrinth veteran Connelly, and Inglorious Basterds alum Laurent under the eye of Llosa. Shooting is scheduled to begin in February, with no release date set.
Lastly for our New Year update, we have an Awards discussion, because, frankly, who doesn't love an award every now and then? Having personally seen Cillian perform without the magic of editing, post production and multiple takes in 2011's Misterman, it's easy for me to understand why a Cillian project would have such a significant hold on an award nomination docket and some very impressive wins, but there is simply no arguing with results.
Thanks Novia!

Vote for Cillian!
12 December 2012 at 12:08 AM | by Angelica

See more Misterman stills
Long time no see! I know things have been quiet around here. We'll have a nice, fat blog for you soon, but for now I want to let you know that WhatsOnStage.com has announced that Cillian has been nominated for Best Solo Performance in Misterman. Voting has been limited to a strict one-vote-per-person policy, but with all of your help, I know Cillian can take home the award on February 17th, 2013.
The Whatsonstage.com Awards, the "theatregoers' choice", are the only major theatre awards in which you, the audience, are the judges across all categories ... Each year, the Awards shortlists — covering the best of London theatre (and a bit beyond) — are drawn up with the help of thousands of theatregoers who log on to nominate their favourites across all 20+ awards categories.
Go out and vote!
Thanks for the info, Jonathan!

Port + Clash + Broken
25 September 2012 at 01:30 PM | by Hellboy, with Nairin78
Cillian reads God for Port

See more Platon photos
Our favorite soul staring, blue eyed Irishman occupies the cover of the seventh issue of the UK Indi men's mag Port. Take a look inside the issue here and you can order your own copy here.
Cillian talks to Port about avoiding the chaos of a typical celebrity life, and delivers a special performance reading of John Lennon's GOD. Read off camera and delivered over a mesmerizing video shoot of Cillian staring into the camera with his own voice-over, the video is chilling, emotionally powerful, and oddly spooky, all at the same time.
Christian shoots Cillian for Clash
Thanks to the incredibly talented photographer Christian Oita, we were alerted to a fantastic video capture of some of Christian's work, shooting Cillian for Clash magazine in an article entitled Devil May Care. More info on the Clash interview and photoshoot can be found here. You can also view Christian's work in our Photoshoots Gallery here.
Broken plays at BFI
We've also learned that Cillian's film Broken will be featured at the 56th BFI London Film Festival this year. The schedule for the festival has recently been announced, with Broken playing at the following times and locations:
October 14, 2012 — OWE, Screen 1 — 8:30 PM
October 15, 2012 — VUE, Screen 5 — 12:30 PM
October 20, 2012 — Screen on the Green — 6:30 PM
Broken weaves a story of the far reaching results of violence and choices. To see Cillian and co-star Tim Roth discuss the film with French and Swiss Entertainment site RTS.CH, click here.
If any of our friends in the UK are able to attend the festival, we'd love to hear from you!
Thanks Chris!

Family first + a return to TV
12 August 2012 at 12:40 AM | by Nancy, with Nairin78

See more ES Magazine pics
In what is no surprise to those of us who have followed Cillian's career for years, Cillian recently revealed to the press that his family comes first before his career. Always considering himself to be European, Cillian refuses to fall prey to the lure of Los Angeles and most blockbuster films, rather selectively choosing roles in high quality indie films that keep him close to his home base in London. You can read the rest of RTÉ ten's article here.
Along these lines, Cillian has signed on to play a ruthless gangster in a BBC2 television mini-series entitled Peaky Blinders. Booked as a period gangster drama, Cillian will be playing Tommy, the most ruthless brother in a family of gangsters. The drama is set in the slum neighborhoods of England in the year 1919, and is being written by Steven Knight who recently penned such TV shows as Eastern Promises and Dirty Pretty Things. Let's just hope that those of us in the states will get to view Cillian's leading turn in this series.
Thanks for the info, Bev!

TDKR premieres cut + Broken wins at OIFF
23 July 2012 at 01:35 AM | by Angelica and Nancy, with Nairin78
TDKR premieres canceled

By now we had hoped to have dozens of premiere photos, interviews, and reviews of The Dark Knight Rises archived for your enjoyment. As you know, the celebration was cut short by the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado. All of us here at The CillianSite would like to express our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those who were lost and injured last Friday. At this time, our prayers and thoughts are with the people of Aurora and all of those suffering along with them.
Out of respect for the victims of the shooting, the Paris and other European Premieres have been canceled. Director Christopher Nolan made a statement on behalf of the cast and crew:
"Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew of The Dark Knight Rises, I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community," he said in a statement released by his publicist today. "I would not presume to know anything about the victims of the shooting but that they were there last night to watch a movie. I believe movies are one of the great American art forms and the shared experience of watching a story unfold on screen is an important and joyful pastime."
You can read the rest of his statement here.
Broken wins at OIFF
On July 21 Broken took home the Odessa International Film Festival's Grand Prix, the Golden Duke statuette and $15,000 in prize money after being voted best by audiences. Congratulations to Cillian and director Rufus Norris for the big win! You can see photos of Cillian attending the July 14th press conference and OIFF presentation of Broken in our Public Appearances gallery here.

Happy viewing, and let us know what you think of The Dark Knight Rises when it hits theaters this Friday!

Is Cillian confirmed to return as Scarecrow?
30 June 2012 at 09:50 PM | by Angelica, with Nairin78

Though most of us were confident Cillian would be reprising his role as The Scarecrow this summer in the third installment of the Batman films, it seems that we can now breathe a collective sigh of relief. During a recent press release announcing TDKR's European Premiere, Cillian was listed as an attending cast memeber.
Also reprising their roles are director Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne, and Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon. Newcomers include fellow Inception stars Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. You can read more here.
The Dark Knight Rises in U.S. theaters on 20 July 2012.
