The sixth edition of The CillianSite Top 5 is themed for celluloid romantic dreams. Everyone came up with such original choices for Cillian’s on-screen love interest that there are only three repeat contenders: Eva Green, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Rachel McAdams (Red Eye seems to have moved so many of us). This list has something to fuel everyone’s fantasy: slash, traditional romance, even May/December affairs! Prepare to swoon at all of the possibilities, and leave your inhibitions at the door.
JT's List
-
#5. Kate Hudson
I absolutely love Kate Hudson! I adored her in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and You, Me and Dupree. She's perfection when it comes to romantic comedies. She's beautiful, cheerful, and quirky. I can definitely see Cillian acting opposite her in a light and happy-go-lucky romantic comedy. Her fun personality is infectious and would definitely bring out a refreshing, lively side to Cillian.
-
#4. Jude Law
Jude Law is not my most favorite actor in the world, but I have to admit, he's a pretty good-looking specimen of a man. Sexy deep voice, chiseled facial features, and gorgeous eyes—just like our Cillian. He's also pretty good at what he does best on- and off-screen: being a total player. I think he would be great as the cheating, cold-hearted lover and Cillian as the angsty, smitten lover. With this scenario, and their blessed good looks, sparks would be flying on-screen.
-
#3. Michelle Pfeiffer
Although Michelle is 50 now, she is still as smolderingly hot as ever. She's also an incredible actress and absolutely gorgeous. She would be perfect as the sexy, older seductress for Cillian. Her eyes exude this "come hither" look; I can just picture her pulling on Cillian's tie and going in for the kill. Cillian at the mercy of Michelle Pfeiffer—it's almost too hot to handle!
-
#2. Rose McGowan
I first came across this pairing in a Twilight series forum (The Twilight Saga is a series of novels by Stephenie Meyer); someone had suggested casting Cillian as James and Rose McGowan as Victoria in a film version. I thought, "Wow, why didn't I think of that?" Rose and Cillian would be amazing—not to mention, hot—as vampires together. We've always thought that Cillian would be the perfect vampire, and I believe Rose would be the ideal vampire lover for him. She's incredibly sexy and knows how to kick ass. I can picture it now: Cillian and Rose as vampires with an S&M touch to their relationship.
-
#1. Rachel McAdams
Whether you are for the Jackson/Lisa ship or not, I think we can all agree that Rachel and Cillian had tremendous chemistry in Red Eye. They are very effective together. From their cute interactions in the Tex-Mex bar scene, you can tell that these two would be brilliant in a romantic movie. Also, judging from the hot Red Eye bathroom scene, they definitely have the potential to be in a steamy, sultry, on-screen love scene together.

-
#5. Lauren Ambrose
Six Feet Under's Lauren is one of my favorite actors, and I'd love to see her film career really take off. A romantic pairing with Cillian could be a great start. These two would be perfect together in anything either intense and edgy or comedic in a dark, oddball way. Or maybe an Irish American historical saga.
-
#4. Chiwetel Ejiofor
Chiwetel is as versatile an actor as Cillian, and devastatingly handsome to boot. I think they could do anything together: a punk rock romance, a partners-in-crime love story, a gay Romeo and Juliet reinterpretation... anything.
-
#3. Thandie Newton
Thandie is an underrated actor and a great beauty. This is who I'd love to see opposite Cillian in a lush romantic melodrama.
-
#2. Daniel Day Lewis
I'd love to see Cillian get a chance to act in anything opposite this heavyweight. But the idea of a noirish film where Daniel is the older man obsessed with a young, queer Cillian sounds totally hot to me.
-
#1. Gael García Bernal
I sometimes imagine that Cillian is the Irish version of Gael and Gael the Mexican version of Cillian. These two skinny, short men have a similar kind of strange beauty in their big eyes, full lips, and deep voices, and a similar taste in eclectic roles. Cast them in something strange and beautiful, have their characters fall in love or in lust, and I'll be counting the days until I can buy a ticket.
Claudia's List
-
#5. Natalie Portman
Both beautiful and talented, she's one of my favorite actresses. I'm dying to see her costarring in a movie with Cillian. Plus, she has to make up for when her character shot his in Cold Mountain. It was so depressing.
-
#4. Jennifer Garner
I'm such a big fan of hers. She has so much charisma, and she's very funny. I would love to see Jen and Cillian costarring in a comedy. Yeah, I know she's mostly known for kicking butt on screen, but I like her better in comedies, especially Juno.
-
#3. Keira Knightley
Leaving aside all the media attention she gets for shallow reasons, I think Keira's on her way to becoming one of the best actresses of her generation. Her career is getting very interesting, and I'm happy for her. I was also happy to find out that she was going to work with Cillian—and really, really jealous too! Come on: she's made out with Cillian, James McAvoy, and Johnny Depp! The girl's insanely lucky. The fact that her character in The Edge of Love cheats on Cillian's makes me want to slap her, but I still think they make a nice couple. I hope they get to work together in another film, one where her character won't cheat on Cillian's, because that's unrealistic, really. Who could possibly cheat on Cillian?
-
#2. Eva Green
She has such a breathtaking beauty, so it wouldn't pale next to Cillian's. My favorite thing about Eva is that, just like Cillian, she is reluctant to get sucked into the Hollywood industry. It seems she'd rather work with directors who take control of their projects and select a worthy script. So, I'm guessing that if Cillian and Eva got to work together, not only would they be a hot onscreen couple, but the film of their choice would also be a good one.
-
#1. Rachel McAdams
What can I say, I adore this onscreen couple. They have fantastic onscreen chemistry, and they also seem to have gotten along pretty well, off-screen. In interviews, Rachel and Cillian recount cute moments that the two shared: solving crossword puzzles, how Rachel was the only one who would laugh at his silly little jokes (the snowman one is such a classic), and that Rachel wasn't making much progress on her knitting. In all of his other movies, Cillian always looks much prettier than his female costar; however, when he and Rachel were on screen together, the two looked equally gorgeous. I can't wait to see them star in another movie together. Plus, they owe me a make-out session (with each other, of course).
Pierspaul's List
-
#5. Jodhi May
She has calmness, grace, and beauty that comes across on screen, and she and Cillian would make a physically well-matched screen couple.
-
#4. Shirley Henderson
An underrated actress, she'd be a perfect match for Cillian in an obsessive tale of unrequited love.
-
#3. Frances Barber
If Cillian were to have a role where he's in a May/December romance, she is my pick to play the older woman. I'd love to see them in a scenario where she plays the wife of Cillian's boss and the two of them have a wild, illicit affair.
-
#2. Liv Tyler
She has an appealing quirkiness and plays comedic and dramatic roles well. I can see her and Cillian playing lovers in a dark thriller.
-
#1. Liz White
The camera loves her, and she lights up the screen. I'd like to see them in a film where they are with other people but are attracted to each other, because I think they can both say a lot with just a look.
Ee's List:
-
#5. Gong Li
She's incredibly striking and handsome, and she's a wonderful actress. There's this beautifully understated elegance about her that I think would work well with Cillian's acting style; she's very calm, composed, and restrained, but her acting is still heartfelt. I think it's very possible that they'll run into each other in the future, so I've got my hopes up that I'll see them in a film in the next...twenty or so years.
-
#4. Liam Neeson
When I saw him starring with Cillian in Breakfast on Pluto, I was immediately blown away. He gave such a quietly worried performance, and I loved the way he interacted with Cillian near the end of the film. And, for some reason, I imagine any love scenes between them to be incredibly intense.
-
#3. Helena Bonham Carter
Dear God, what can't this woman do? I didn't consider pairing her up with Cillian until I saw Sweeney Todd, and now I can't get enough of them. If they starred in something as fantastically macabre as Todd (or any of Bonham's films directed by Tim Burton, really), I'd snatch up the tickets.
-
#2. Jamie Foxx
It seems like an odd choice, but I really think this could work. I remember watching Ray and thinking, "Wow, this man can emote wonderfully." Seeing him with Cillian would be such a fantastic thing; I imagine that they'd have a very complicated, unique romance onscreen. There's such a huge contrast in terms of personality and acting style, and I really think that could work out to their advantage. Oh, and think of how beautiful the angst would be.
-
#1. Nicole Kidman
Whenever I see Moulin Rouge, I feel a twinge in my heart—Cillian would have made an excellent Christian! That's the type of film I see Cillian and Nicole starring in: something delightfully, unbelievably campy. It'd be even better if the colors were horribly over-saturated and the film was a musical. I see so much potential for these two; if she could play some sort of perverse version of a femme fatale and Cillian a silly, ordinary person, then I'd be so happy.
Madra Rua's List
-
#5. Monica Bellucci
Indulge me, I just want to see these two together on screen, for no other reason than that. It's a totally odd pairing, which would make for a short-lived, hot romance on camera.
-
#4. Bryce Dallas Howard
Bryce has really come into her own as actor with her last few roles, including the hefty Spider-Man 3 and Lars von Trier's Manderlay. I think she and Cillian would make an insanely sweet-as-icing pair, like the quirky couple next door. The only thing needed would be a great plot for a dark comedy or an offbeat drama.
-
#3. Maggie Gyllenhaal
They would make the ultimate hipster, big city couple. Plus, the combination of the unique physical features and outstanding acting talents of both actors would make for a must-see movie. A film filled to the brim with drama or an off-the-wall comedy like Gyllenhaal's Stranger Than Fiction would showcase their abilities and spark a hotter-than-fire romance.
-
#2. August Diehl
I was going to be selfish and put myself as number two, but I decided that honor should to go to one of Germany's top actors, August Diehl. If Cillian should take on a homosexual role, I would love to see him paired up with August. Perhaps it's because they're almost identical in both looks and talent, or it could be the incredible romance that might develop between their characters. The prospect of seeing them on screen together in a romantic relationship would have me buying tickets in advance.
-
#1. Rachel Weisz
For me, it's a tie between numbers one and two, but since there must be a top choice... Weisz is more than your average English beauty. With her amazing skills and composure, she could bring a more mature and possibly stable aspect to a relationship with Cillian's character— or she could do the complete opposite. I never know what Weisz will throw at us next, such as her inspiring character Izzi in Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain and her whip-smart Petula of Beautiful Creatures. Rachel and Cillian would definitely make a top couple in my book.
Mistress Kizuna's List:
-
#5. Ludivine Sagnier
Reportedly, Cillian's a fluent French speaker, and I've always wanted to see him in a movie with a beautiful French actress. Ludivine is beautiful and talented, and the mixture of her and Cillian's unique beauty could make for a beautiful combination indeed.
-
#4. Zachary Quinto
Blame this on my love for Heroes' Zach Quinto as Sylar, as well as the fact that I have an original character from my Heroes fanfic modeled after Cillian. I just love the idea of Sylar and Leon (my Cillian character) meeting each other. Whatever the case, they both just ooze this really unique hotness, and wouldn't they make an amazing duo on screen?
-
#3. Asia Argento
They both have that really smart, artistic personality and sex appeal, so why not? And to top it off, the movie could be made by Asia's father, director Dario Argento, and it would be all the more amazing.
-
#2. Jonathan Rhys Meyers
I just can't resist. Seriously, the blue eyes, the Irish accents, the talent, the beauty...(goes off rambling incoherently).
-
#1. Eva Green
Could you just imagine the talent, the beauty, and the chemistry? I get goose bumps just thinking about how they'd heat up the screen with their amazing presences. Eva has been amazing in every role she's had, and she always has such perfect sexual chemistry with her male co-stars. Add Cillian, who's also great at creating chemistry with co-stars, to that mix and the sparks will surely fly.
Quetzaltlaloc's List
-
#5. Naomi Watts
I enjoy Naomi for the fact that her characters have a toughness to them that contrasts with her slight physical form. I believe that this is something that she and Cillian have in common: the ability to make themselves appear larger on-screen through confidence and emotional strength. I would love to see them in a dark film where each struggles for psychological dominance over their relationship.
-
#4. Maggie Gyllenhaal
I admit, I'm only including Maggie on my list as a gift to Cillian; if he's willing to refer to her as "foxy" in real life, imagine how true the chemistry would be if he were free to "act" upon his feelings!
-
#3. Drew Barrymore
Drew is the queen of romantic comedies. Her sweet smile and endearing, fun-loving personality make her a perfect match for Cillian as the straight-man. If Drew were to work with Cillian, I think he would finally have a successful romantic comedy under his belt.
-
#2. Kate Winslet
Ms. Winslet has class. If it wasn't for her performance, I would not have been able to sit through The Holiday. Only Kate can realistically portray true quirkiness, as she proved in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. If she and Cillian were to team up in a romantic film, I would have a difficult time believing that it was only a movie.
-
#1. Audrey Tautou
Audrey Tautou's specialty is innocence, as she shows in Amélie and Dirty Pretty Things. Her huge brown eyes always seem to beg for honesty, acceptance, and love. Wouldn't it be fantastic if she played Cillian's damsel in distress who ultimately turns out to be the villain? Angelic faces often do disguise an evil heart!
