Synopsis:
In this raucous tale of rural Ireland, timid stranger Christy Mahon (Cillian Murphy) enchants local villagers with the tale of how he murdered his father. Christy's confidence grows as the townspeople are in awe of his murderous deed and two local women, Pegeen Mike (Anne-Marie Duff) and the Widow Quinn (Aisling O'Sullivan), vie for his affection. Pegeen Mike's spurned beloved, Shawn (Gary Lydon), colludes with the Widow Quinn to help her win the Playboy's heart, but despite her charms, Christy wants to marry Pegeen Mike. This romance goes afoul, however, when Christy's father (Frank O'Sullivan) appears, still alive. The townspeople, realising that they have been fooled, unite forces and turn on him.
