Synopsis:
Fifty years in the future, our sun is dying, and the spaceship Icarus II is sent to jump-start it by exploding a super-bomb into its very heart. Sixteen months into their journey, the crew is feeling the emotional strain of close quarters and homesickness, exhibited in everything from grumbling over meals to physical violence between Mace (Chris Evans), the ship's engineer, and Robert Capa (Cillian Murphy), the physicist in charge of the bomb. The crew has just entered the "dead zone," out of range of Earth, when they receive a distress call from their predecessor, Icarus I, which disappeared seven years before. Capa, a man more comfortable in the company of his bomb than with his crewmates, is charged with making the all-important decision: to intercept Icarus I or continue on their mission. From the instant he makes the call, things start going wrong, and Sunshine quickly turns into a battle not just for the crew's lives but for the survival of the mission and our very Earth.
Cast also includes Rose Byrne, Troy Garity, Hiroyuki Sanada, Benedict Wong, and Michelle Yeoh.
