Synopsis:
Cillian Murphy stars as Patrick "Kitten" Braden, an innocent wayfarer in a "serious, serious, serious" world in this adaptation of Patrick McCabe's novel. The abandoned product of an illicit romance between a small town parish priest (Liam Neeson) and his housekeeper, Kitten travels from Ireland to London in search of her mother. Kitten's fairy-tale quest is played out against a backdrop of political strife and escalating IRA violence. Despite the trials she faces as a transgendered person in 1970's London, Kitten remains unspoiled. She continues to believe in the importance of both the fundamental and the frivolous in life. It is the others in her life who change, transformed by their exposure to the ingenuous vision of this endearing, wise fool.
Cast also includes Brendan Gleeson, Stephen Rea, Gavin Friday, Ruth Negga, and Laurence Kinlan.
Of Note:
Cillian won an IFTA and was nominated for a Golden Globe for this highly acclaimed performance.
